About the position

The Multifunctional Landscape Lever is currently seeking a professional in the fields of Soil Health and Regenerative Agriculture to make significant contributions to our mission of deploying innovative and scalable solutions for sustainable agriculture and multifunctional landscape management. The objective for this position will be supporting, designing, and implementing ongoing and new research projects related to soil organic carbon dynamics, soil ecology, and soil health through different regions with a focus on Latin America and the Caribbean and Africa.

The selected candidate must have core competencies including the ability to design, guide, and evaluate agronomic interventions in the field to enhance soil and water management. They should also demonstrate proficiency in monitoring soil health indicators, conducting literature reviews and synthesizing scientific literature, performing meta-analyses, and publishing scientific findings.

The position will be based in the operations center of the Americas, located in the Campus of Palmira, Colombia.

Responsibilities

 

  • Provide technical guidance on the design, planning, and implementation of projects around soil health, soil carbon sequestration, and regenerative agriculture.
  • Coordinate and manage projects focusing on soil health and related themes, working closely with project leaders, and collaborating with researchers.
  • Conduct literature reviews, meta-analyses, and method testing to support the evaluation and monitoring of soil health.
  • Develop protocols and enhance the capacity of research teams and partners in data collection, laboratory and data analysis, and interpretation of findings. Utilize innovative tools, methodologies, and frameworks for assessing soil health, with particular emphasis on the development and analysis of biological indicators.
  • Ensure rigorous data analysis through the utilization of advanced statistical methodologies.
  • Lead and contribute to the development of scientific publications, technical documents, conference presentations, and project reports.
  • Collaborate closely with partners, stakeholders, and donors to develop agronomic and landscape solutions adaptable to diverse contexts.
  • Provide mentorship and supervision to junior research staff, as well as doctoral and master’s students.
  • Assist the team in devising fundraising strategies and strategic planning for future research opportunities.
  • Oversee project management to ensure timely delivery of results and comprehensive reporting.

 

Requirements

 

  • PhD in Soil science, Soil ecology, Agronomy, Agroecology, or related disciplines.
  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years’ experience working on research related to soil health, soil carbon sequestration, soil ecology, or related topics.
  • Practical experience in soil and water management and design of agricultural practices.
  • Proficiency in analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in literature review and scientific publishing in international peer-reviewed journals.
  • Advanced experience in experimental design, data analysis, and statistical methods.
  • Laboratory and fieldwork experience.
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or remote sensing.
  • Excellent management of Microsoft Office package and R Statistical Computing.
  • Advanced English level (oral and written).
  • Driver’s license.

Terms of employment 

 

This is a national recruited position placed at a BG08, on a scale of 14 levels, with level 14 being the highest.

This is a Colombian national search and will be managed through a fixed-term contract of a one (1) year period, subject to a probation period according to the local legislation and is renewable depending on performance and availability of resources.
