Are you passionate about maintaining integrity and promoting ethical standards? Do you have a strong background in law, finance, or banking, and extensive experience in investigations? The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is seeking a Principal, External Investigations to join our Office of the Chief Compliance Officer (OCCO).

Purpose of the Role
As Principal, External Investigations, you will play a crucial role in supporting the investigation functions of the OCCO. You will work closely with the Associate Director, External Investigations, and under the direction of the Director, Investigations, to conduct and assist with investigations into allegations of prohibited practices (corruption, fraud, coercion, collusion) related to EBRD operations. Occasionally, you may assist with internal investigations into employee misconduct.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct and assist with external investigations involving allegations of serious fraud or corruption.
  • Prepare preliminary assessments, investigation reports, and other necessary documentation.
  • Collaborate with other multilateral development banks and co-financing institutions on joint investigations.
  • Contribute to the development of the Bank’s integrity policies and procedures.
  • Support high-level dialogues and cooperation with international organizations on mutual debarment and compliance.
  • Develop standardized templates and policy documents.
  • Conduct investigative missions abroad and participate in relevant conferences.
  • Deliver presentations and training on fraud detection and prevention techniques.
  • Provide advice to senior staff on matters concerning prohibited practices.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A postgraduate degree in law (LLM or JD), MBA, or Master’s degree in a relevant field (finance, banking, accounting).
  • Strong analytical and legal skills, with the ability to interpret complex legal and financial information.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting complex investigations and managing case loads.
  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken; proficiency in other languages used in the Bank’s countries of operation is an advantage.
  • Thorough understanding of EBRD’s mission, mandate, and processes.
  • Experience with investigation policy development and international negotiations (desirable).
  • Strong advocacy and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders.
