Position Title: Program Associate 

Location: VA Office, US Remote, or US Hybrid  

Department: Environment and Energy 

Unit: Ecosystem Services 

POSITION SUMMARY 

 

The Program Associate will support projects in the sphere of ecosystem evaluation, deforestation, carbon accounting, and climate change mitigation and adaptation. The Program Associate performs technical analysis, conducts research, and prepares external reports for clients. 

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Conduct or contribute to qualitative analyses in support of technical deliverables. 
  2. Gather accurate, credible information on a subject and summarize the findings in support of technical deliverables. 
  3. Draft and support the completion of program communication products. 
  4. Review, edit and format technical reports and deliverables and ensure compliant uploads to donor repositories. 
  5. Input information into relevant databases and project trackers, support monitoring and evaluation processes, and link project data with required client reporting. 
  6. Assist organizing and coordination internal and external meetings, record meeting minutes, and ensure follow-up of next steps. 
  7. Provide ongoing support in monitoring, tracking, and troubleshooting program implementation.  
  8. Ensure program compliance with Winrock’s policies, procedures and contractual obligations for procurement, subcontracts, HR, consultants’ agreements, financials transactions or any other project management task as required. 
  9. Prepare and disseminate routine internal coordination reports documenting programmatic activities’ and administrative/operational/financial tasks’ status and action points. 
  10. Manage logistics for events such as project presentations, team retreats, meetings and conferences, and other outreach efforts.  
  11. Perform other tasks as assigned. 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in international development or environment-related field required. Graduate level degree in environmental science, forestry, ecology, environmental policy, geography, or a related discipline preferred. 

 

Experience: 

  • Minimum one year of relevant experience in program coordination, administration, or logistical support required. 
  • Understanding of greenhouse gas accounting principles, methods, and tools is required. This can include exposure to these topics as part of internships or classes.  
  • Specialized training in greenhouse gas accounting principles is preferred (ex: Greenhouse Gas Management Institute). 
  • Demonstrated interest in programs related to climate change and ecosystem services via previous work/volunteer experience and/or academic coursework/research.  
  • Demonstrated international experience strongly desired. 

 

Position-Specific Skills: 

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.  
  • Comfortable working in a flexible, high-paced environment and able to work well in teams and independently. 
  • Ability to contribute to project operations and workflow effectively, to track and meet deadlines for multiple tasks, and work effectively under pressure. 
  • Strong time management and organizational abilities for completing detailed administrative, communications, and other assigned tasks.  
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities required.  
  • Able to communicate in a clear, professional, and positive manner with a variety of team members and various stakeholders in a multi-cultural environment with respect for diversity.  
  • Interest in contributing to technical innovation in climate change mitigation and adaptation, natural resource management, and biodiversity conservation. 
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office software, including Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Advanced proficiency in Excel is preferred. 
  • Fluent in English, fluency in other language is a plus. 

 

Must be authorized to work in the United States.
