The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.
CSIS is seeking a Program Coordinator to successfully administer the Economic Security and Technology (EST) department, including day-to-day logistics. Theme of the EST department’s work include U.S competitiveness, trade, innovation, and supply chain resiliency; economic and technological competition with global powers such as China; effectiveness of U.S. policy instruments such as sanctions, export controls, and investment restrictions; and geopolitics of energy and strategic resources, including critical mineral supply chains. The program coordinator position requires diplomatic skills with a range of internal and external interlocutors and is a key role in advancing operational and substantive goals of the department. The wide portfolio of responsibilities includes supporting the EST president and chief of staff in day-to day-operations; collaboration with other CSIS programs; budget forecasting and maintenance; event and conference management; travel logistics; monitoring trends; intern recruitment; and participating in special projects.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who has experience in program/project management, including budgets; is able to work concurrently on activities and projects that span multiple subject areas; and is adaptive and reflexive to changing operational needs. They must be able to multi-task, appropriately prioritize competing demands, and effectively communicate. The position reports directly to the EST president and chief of staff.
The minimum salary for this position is $55,000.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:
• Staff department president including scheduling, media requests, expense reimbursement, project management, written correspondence, and travel.
• Support the day-to-day operations of the department alongside the chief of staff, including fielding calls, maintaining department calendar, maintaining documentation of all project proposals and agreements; managing internal databases; and assisting in tracking outreach and impact metrics.
• Develop, monitor, and review department budgets, analyze monthly accounting statements, and prepare for regular budget reviews.
• Manage event logistics, outreach, and all other aspects of public and private meetings, panel discussions, and conferences.
• Assist with intern selection and management.
• Maintain, manage, and analyze contact database through Salesforce software.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with other CSIS departments and research programs.
Assist with the development and implementation of research proposals and special projects.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
• B.A. in relevant field required. 1-2 year of professional experience is an asset.
• Excellent organizational and project management skills, including the ability to prioritize, track, and accomplish multiple tasks simultaneously in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated ability to plan and execute events and conferences.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively interact with and respond to questions from a range of individuals with diverse interested and backgrounds, including senior-level representatives of the U.S. government, international organizations, and foreign government.
• Exceptional attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
• Ability to write, think, and operate independently and on a team.
• Candidate should have sound judgment, a positive attitude, and creative outlook.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK CONDITIONS:
This position will be based out of our Washington DC headquarters and is expected to be in-office 3+ days per week.
