The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.
The CSIS Global Health Policy Center (GHPC) works with diverse stakeholders to make U.S. global health efforts more strategic, integrated, and sustainable, as well as to raise awareness of global health and its importance to U.S. national security. The key focus areas include global health security, HIV/AIDS, women’s and children’s health, nutrition and food security, the sustainability of U.S. bilateral and multilateral global health initiatives, and the burden of infectious diseases.
CSIS GHPC seeks a highly motivated Program Coordinator to support the Center’s work. This position will focus on executing activities that play a key role in advancing GHPC’s major initiatives and objectives. S/he also will support the research and organizational work of the directors and research associates and engage regularly with the GHPC Executive Director and other staff.
The ideal candidate will have an educational and/or professional background in global health/health and some experience in project management. S/he should be able to work concurrently on multiple activities and projects and be adaptive and reflexive to changing operational needs. S/he must be able to multi-task, seek clarification and guidance as appropriate, prioritize competing demands, and effectively communicate.
The minimum annual salary for this position is $55,000.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:
• Provide administrative support to the Global Health Policy Center staff, including drafting correspondence and memos and contributing to the preparation of multimedia products.
• Provide support in preparation for meetings, events, publications, multimedia products.
• Provide support in the coordination of logistics for events, meetings, conferences, and other logistics as assigned.
• Communicate verbally or in writing with CSIS and external partners.
• Schedule and provide calendar management support for the directors, including review of meeting requests and schedule coordination.
• Coordinate global health events in Washington, D.C., online and provide a summary to Global Health Policy Center staff.
• Consult a wide variety of news services and peer reviewed journals and prepare memos to brief Global Health Policy Center staff.
• Support and arrange travel plans, documents, and itineraries.
• Complete expense reports for director and maintains electronic receipts.
• Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree in Global Health, International Relations, International Development, Public Policy/Administration, or related field.
• Must have demonstrated knowledge of and interest in global health, policies, programs, and stakeholders.
• Work experience in a policy focused non-profit or think tank preferred.
• Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively present information.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must possess a self-starting, entrepreneurial mind-set and be able to work well independently and in teams.
• PC literate, specifically MS Office, and familiarity with web-based research tools.
• Experience with social media in a professional setting desired.
