The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of approximately 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.
The Program Coordinator is an integral part of the Hess Center team and responsible for overseeing a wide range of program and administrative components including financial management, liaising with CSIS research programs, corresponding with external vendors and partners, supporting event planning and implementation, creating and managing marketing materials, assisting with travel arrangements and logistics, preparing detailed briefs on a broad range of research topics, tracking program metrics, and providing overall administrative support.
The Hess Center for New Frontiers connects leaders in government, civil society, and business with innovative CSIS research on macrotrends and drivers shaping the future global landscape. Through its dynamic New Frontiers presentation, hands-on suite of executive foresight workshops, and technical advisory council, the Hess Center develops future-oriented leaders and equips them with the tools, analysis, and research they need to transform today’s challenges into tomorrow’s opportunities.
The salary range for this position is $55,000-$60,000 based on experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:
The Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Hess Center’s administrative efforts. Daily responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Assisting the team in all aspects of event planning, promotion, and execution for public events and for internal (private) meetings and briefings with members of the U.S. government, private sector, foreign government partners, and others;
• Developing and tracking program budgets and expenses in Excel and other database systems;
• Managing business opportunities in Salesforce and tracking program metrics and growth;
• Liaising with CSIS research and administrative staff on collaborative projects and events;
• Assisting with logistics, travel arrangements, and drafting itineraries for Hess Center travel;
• Supporting outreach and business development, including creating or upkeeping marketing materials, mailing campaigns, social media strategies, and other efforts;
• Assisting CSIS Executive Education with planning and delivering executive programs, including creating and maintaining program budgets, coordinating experts and staff, and preparing course materials and spaces;
• Supporting, when needed, the program’s research priorities on analyzing global macrotrends by writing summaries or backgrounders, identifying datasets, and researching audience-specific priorities;
• Infrequently working outside of regular business hours to assist with critical Hess Center events like occasional workshops and major conferences;
• Other duties as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
• Completed Bachelor’s degree;
• Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience (including internships);
• Minimum 1 year of academic or professional experience conducting policy research on future-oriented macrotrends related to global demographics, food and water security, energy transition and climate change, technological disruption, or geopolitics;
• Prior business development experience preferred, including creating prospect pipelines, managing communication with external partners, and interfacing with customers;
• Familiarity with Salesforce and design applications like Canva and Adobe are a plus;
• Excellent written communication skills;
• Must be detail-oriented and well-organized with demonstrated success working in collaborative team environments and proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously under strict deadlines;
• Ability to work closely with a range of individuals with diverse backgrounds, dispositions, and executive levels;
• A positive attitude, entrepreneurial outlook, and ability to project a professional image to the public, co-workers, partners, and CSIS partners.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK CONDITIONS:
This position will be based out of our Washington DC headquarters and is expected to be in-office 3+ days per week. The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee working in an office environment.
