The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. The CSIS Wadhwani Center for AI and Advanced Technologies seeks to answer vitally important questions about the future of Artificial Intelligence and its implications for the global economy and international security.
The Wadhwani Center for AI and Advanced Technologies is hiring a Program Coordinator & Research Assistant (PC/RA) who is highly motivated, professional, and has a strong interest in research and program operations. The PC/RA will be responsible for a wide range of project components, including overseeing research tasks for the intern team, managing the project website and publications process, coordinating events and mailings, and providing research, analytical, and writing support for the project’s director.
This position is research intensive and therefore requires excellent time management skills and careful attention to detail. Candidates should function well in a fast-paced team environment, adapt quickly to a wide variety of research and programmatic tasks, and have strong written and oral communications skills. Team members will have regular opportunities to contribute research, input, and ideas for analytical pieces.
The minimum annual salary for this position is $55,000.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:
• Conduct research on global AI regulation, semiconductor supply chain analysis, technology and industrial policy, military use of AI and the future of warfare, and AI’s role in the global economy.
• Coordinate key activities, including managing interns, social media accounts, drafting mailings, editing publications, and performing other administrative functions as needed.
• Manage virtual and in-person public and private events, including speaker recommendations, scheduling, agendas, tracking RSVPs, and liaising with the audio-visual and events teams.
• Contribute to analytical products through research, ideas, and general awareness of relevant news, publications, and international events.
• Assist with the online publication processes for news and analysis updates.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
• B.A. Required in Computer Science, International Relations, Economics, Political Science, or other relevant fields.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to, edit, do research for, and produce high quality written materials, ideally analytical reports with policy recommendations.
• Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and communication skills, including the ability to effectively coordinate with project stakeholders in the public, academic, and private sectors, and coach a diverse team remotely and in-person.
• Must possess strong interest in science and technology policy, and U.S. national and economic security more broadly.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office products is required. Advanced Excel skills are a plus.
• Working proficiency in social media like Twitter is required, as are ability to use video conferencing software like Zoom and Teams.
• Superior attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Experience planning and executing public and private events.
• Must be available to work in-person at CSIS headquarters in Washington, DC.

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Performances of duties require the use of hands and fingers to handle or feel. The job frequently requires ability to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
