Major Function

World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the world’s leading conservation organization, seeks a Program Officer (PO) for the WWF Global Environmental Facility (GEF) Project Agency. Under the supervision of the VP, the PO will support the team on portfolio management and efficiency, implement project processing with the team of WWF GEF Project Managers, and support dedicated project development and implementation for large, multilateral-funded, international environment projects.

Responsibilities

  • Grants and Agreements: This position supports the GEF team in reviewing, tracking, and processing grants and agreements. This includes consultants for project development, project execution agreements, and internal programming agreements with other WWF-US teams and WWF Offices.
  • Portfolio Tracking Management: Manages portfolio tracking and keeps the team updated through Excel sheets, Smart Simple, Pawprint, and other tools. Manages the WWF GEF website (uploads project documents and news) and the GEF Tracks website; Manages portfolio level reporting to the GEF and internally; Facilitates project level reporting to the GEF and internally; Tracks deadlines for the team;
  • Project Processing: Works with WWF GEF Project Managers in the development, submission/resubmission, and supervision of projects. Under the guidance of the relevant Project Manager, the PO will help prepare, finalize and advertise consultant Terms of Relevance (TORs) ; help prepare and finalize mission TORs and Back to Office Reports; Research technical topics to support project development; Track project related deadlines; Organizes internal and external peer reviews of projects; Assists the Project Manager and team to respond to internal and GEF Sec project reviews; Enters proposal and project submissions and resubmissions in the GEF Portal; Ensures client compliance with Grant Agreements for projects in implementation; Reviews client reports for projects in implementation; May supervise consultants; and Attend in-country missions as required.
  • GEF knowledge: Keeps abreast of policy, strategy and issues in the Global Environment Facility and in WWF GEF operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of four to six years of experience in program management, biodiversity conservation, or natural resources management as well as an understanding of international conservation issues is required
  • Excellent attention to detail is required
  • Proficent is MS Office is required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project development, ideally in the sector of international multilateral and bilateral environment development aid
  • Knowledge and understanding of the global environment, institutional architecture, and associated financial mechanisms, a plus
  • Highly efficient and productive work style
  • Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills
  • Must be self motivated and able to work independently, under pressure, to meet deadlines and commitments
  • Ability to work on initiatives with multiple and competing priorities
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member with a wide range of individuals across cultures and time zones
  • Fluency in French or Spanish is an advantage.

**This is a hybrid position with a minimum of 2 days a week in the HQ office in Washington, D.C.**
