Organizational Context and Scope
Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission, and under the direct supervision of the Programme officer, the successful candidate will be specifically responsible to assist with and contribute to the day-to-day administration, coordination and implementation of activities of Migration Management (MMU) and Border Pass project, while also supporting other programmatic units.
The successful candidate will be primarily tasked with supporting the implementation of IOM activities on Migration Management unit (MMU) and Border Pass Project. The Border Pass project focuses on facilitating safe cross-border mobility of small-scale traders, border communities along the North-South, Nacala, and Beira Corridors in Southern Africa. It is a joint initiative between Malawi and Mozambique. Secondly, the candidate will support implementation of activities related to Migrants’ protection and other Migration Management initiatives such as GCM, Migration and Development, AVRR, others.
1. Perform administrative, logistical, and coordination activities to support the implementation and coordination of all IOM Border Pass Project, Migration Management related activities.
2. Assist in the smooth implementation of all IOM activities of the Border Pass project, Migration Management and related projects, by supporting the preparation and adaption of workplans, in coordination with Programme Officer.
3. Assist in response to Migrants protection needs of stranded migrants, VoT, and in supporting the government Counter trafficking initiatives.
4. Facilitate the return of vulnerable migrants to countries of origin and complete/maintain necessary documentation.
5. Assist in tracking, coordinating and reporting project expenditure in line with reporting requirements in line with IOM internal reporting guidelines,
6. Support the coordination of the hosting of workshops, seminars and conferences in line with the project workplan.
7. Assist in drafting of programmatic presentations, talking points, briefing papers, speeches and press briefing notes as well as promoting donor visibility,
8. Undertake duty travel, as required to ensure the smooth implementation of projects within the relevant portfolio.
9. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Education
- University degree or its equivalent in Political or Social Sciences, Business Administration, Migration Studies, International Relations, Law or a related field from an accredited academic institution with at least three years of relevant professional experience, or
- School diploma with five years of relevant experience.
Experience
- Operational and field experience in migration management issues, including government and donor liaison.
- Demonstrated knowledge of government processes, including engagement with technical partners.
- Demonstrated good level of expertise in the thematic areas relevant to the project – specifically IBG, Migrant assistance, labour migration, migration policy.
- Knowledge of project cycle.
Skills
- Excellent writing and communication skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with government authorities, national and international organizations, and other project partners.
Languages
- Fluency in English is required.
IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
