WHY JOIN WFP?
Background – WFP Palestine
The 2024 Flash Appeal identified 3.3 million Palestinians as requiring assistance in the OPT with the majority (2.3 million) in the Gaza Strip and an estimated 1 million in the West Bank. The current conflict in the Gaza Strip, which started on 7 October 2023 led to mass displacement and disruption of basic services such as food, nutrition, health, water and sanitation services. This has resulted in an unprecedented increase in the number of people in need A multi-stakeholder working group undertook an analysis of available data on the drivers of acute malnutrition which revealed that over 90% of children experienced one or more diseases, 90% of children 6 – 23 months and PBWG facing diminished access to both quality and quantity of diets. Screening data has also revealed a rapid deterioration in nutritional status of children 6 – 24 months in Gaza.
