The Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) is responsible for leadership, operational support and oversight of the United Nations security management system (UNSMS) globally. As a global leader in security risk management principles, UNDSS enables the safe and effective delivery of United Nations programmes and activities in the most complex and challenging environments, while maximizing precious resources. This position is currently located in the Gender and Inclusion Unit of the Strategic Planning Service (SPS), Office of the Under-Secretary-General for Safety and Security (OUSG) in New York, and reports to the Gender and Inclusion Coordinator.

Responsibilities
Within delegated authority and under the supervision of the Gender and Inclusion Coordinator, Strategic Planning Service or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the Programme Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
• Participates in the design, implementation and evaluation of the the Department’s Strategy on Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women across DHSSS/SSS locations ensuring alignment with other relevant divisions and offices of UNDSS.
• Support the implementation of the Department’s other inclusivity initiatives, including the Anti-Racism Action Plan, across DHSSS/SSS locations ensuring alignment with other relevant divisions and offices of UNDSS
• Monitors and analyzes programme/project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and tracks follow-up actions.
• Researches, analyzes and presents gender and inclusion related information gathered from diverse sources.
• Assists in gender and inclusion related policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies.
• Undertakes survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues and prepares conclusions.
• Prepares various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.
• Provides substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc.
• Undertakes outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars, etc.; makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.
• Participates in or lead field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries, etc.
• Coordinates activities related to budget and funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and prepares related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc.).
• Performs other duties as required.

Education
Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible work experience in designing, coordinating, and implementing initiatives, projects and/or programs related to gender equality and women empowerment is required.
Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Prior experience working in the UN or other international development organization is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English (oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
Special Notice
• This job opening is advertised to fill an extra-budgetary funded temporary position. The position is temporarily available for 364 days, with possibility for extension. Extension of the appointment is subject to extension of mandate and funding availability. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment.
