The services of the individual contractor will improve the use and dissemination of UNCTAD’s capacity-building activities on investment promotion and facilitation for sustainable development. In particular, the individual contractor will contribute to the work of UNCTAD as Secretariat for GASEZ, and to the timely implementation of the activities required of the Development Account project 2427B ”Attracting finance and investment for the energy transition in Africa”.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Investment Promotion Section has two main deliverables by the first quarter of 2025 and requires the following services: 1/ As Secretariat to the Global Alliance for Special Economic Zones (GASEZ), IPS requires the services of the individual contractor to carry out activities related to the follow up of GASEZ 3rd annual conference, such as reporting, developing a workplan for 2025 and expanding the SDG Model Zone Partner initiative. 2/ As UN coordinators of the DA project and responsible of strengthening capacities of stakeholders to attract finance and investment in renewable energy (RE), IPS has to deliver final drafts of the strategy paper and action plan for each beneficiary country and requires the individual contractor to support with the online consultations with main stakeholders in each country for validation of the strategy and to organize the planning of the capacity building activities on bankable projects for the beneficiary countries, that should take place in 2025. Under the supervision of the project coordinators, the individual contractor will support the Investment Promotion Section in two different areas: 1. Activities under project T1BN: Support IPS work as the Secretariat of the Global Alliance of Special Economic Zones (GASEZ), including follow-up activities to the 3d GASEZ Annual Conference, development of a workplan for 2025, coordination of regular GASEZ meetings of founding members, and expansion of the SDG Model Zone Partner initiative. 1.1. Prepare the report of the GASEZ 3rd Annual Conference; 1.2. Review and summarize in a table the nominations received through an online survey for expansion of the SDG Model Zone initiative (prepare a report with key findings to facilitate the evaluation of the nominations); 1.3. Assist in the development of the 2025 GASEZ workplan based on the outcomes and recommendations from the founding members board meetings and GASEZ 3rd Annual Conference (report with the definition of activities and timetable). 2. Activities under the Development Account project DA 2427B ”Attracting Finance and Investment for the Energy Transition in Africa”: 2.1. Develop a template for online consultations to gather feedback and inputs on the strategies and action plans developed for Ethiopia, Malawi, Namibia, Seychelles and Tanzania; 2.2. Conduct online consultations for the five countries and document the feedback received from stakeholders; 2.3. Develop a plan for the capacity building activities on bankable projects for beneficiary countries.
Qualifications/special skills
A Master or secondary university degree on economics, international business and development, sustainable development or related issues is required. A Bachelor’s degree with additional two years of experience could be accepted. At least one year of experience in the organization of stakeholder’s events, research in sustainable development issues, preferably in climate and/or renewable energy, is required.
Languages
Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of other UN language is desirable.
