OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

The UNESCO Regional Office in New Delhi covers Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives. The incumbent shall contribute to the design, implementation, development, and coordination of activities carried out under Major Programme IV – Culture in the South Asia region in close collaboration with the Member States, local communities, and other stakeholders and close cooperation and coordination with the relevant Entities of the Culture Sector at Headquarters.

Under the UNESCO World Heritage and Sustainable Development for Local Communities framework, UNESCO New Delhi aims to collaborate with the artisans and communities to understand their aspirations and explore ways to develop a sustainable livelihood proposal by enhancing their skills. The project aligns with the UNESCO 2003 Convention on the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage and focuses on enhancing the protection and promotion of heritage and cultural diversity.

Addressing these complex challenges requires community-led interventions focused on heritage preservation and sustainable development, which this project aims to achieve under the Korea Fund in Trust. This project also seeks to develop a cultural experience for both visitors and the local community.

SCOPE OF WORK

Under the overall authority of the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Maldives and the direct supervision of the Chief of the Culture Sector, the incumbent shall :

* Assist the culture sector in coordinating upcoming activities of heritage preservation and sustainable development through a comprehensive approach by involving local communities, in distinct phases, in particular the Korea-Fit project.

* Assist the culture sector in implementing various activities under the framework of World Heritage and Sustainable Tourism, to be planned in the region.

* Coordinate the project partners like government bodies and NGOs for implementation of assigned projects.

* Assist the sector in providing reports, documents, social media article or content related to the projects for knowledge dissemination and visibility.

* Assist the sector in developing project proposals and related communication documents for the donors and other stakeholders.

* Perform any other duties as requested by the Director of the Office as well as the Chief of the Culture Sector.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Completed secondary, technical and/or vocational education.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 2(Two) years’ relevant professional experience in the field of culture or related field.
  • Work experience in supporting project management and coordination.

Skills/Competencies

  • Excellent coordination and organizational skills.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to draft clearly and concisely and sensitivity to the local context.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a multicultural environment, both within and outside the Organization and to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage heavy workloads and meet tight deadlines, paying close attention to details and quality of work.
  • Strong IT skills including good knowledge of standard office software.

Language

  • Excellent knowledge (written and spoken) of English and Hindi.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Ancient History, Cultural Heritage, Cultural Landscapes, Heritage Management, or relevant fields.

Work Experience

  • Previous experience in the organization of national-level cultural projects/event

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to work in partnership with a wide range of national, regional, and international organizations.

DURATION OF CONTRACT

The duration of the contract is 1 year with a probation period of 3 months, with the possibility of extension depending on the availability of funds and the performance of the candidate.

Benefits and Entitlement

UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days of annual leave, 24 days of certified sick leave etc.
