Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for the Natural Sciences Sector (ADG/SC), overall guidance of the Director of the Division of Science Policy and Basic Sciences (SC/DIR/PBS), supervision of the Chief of Section of the Section of Basic Sciences, Research Innovation and Engineering (SC/PBS/RIE), and direct supervision of their Programme Specialist, the incumbent will provide necessary clerical support to activities related to the UNESCO-Al Fozan International Prize for the promotion of Young Scientists in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

S/he will assist in the implementation and delivery of the expected results of the relevant Prize by ensuring application and compliance with the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. In particular, s/he shall take action to assist in the management of the dedicated web platform where the application process will be performed especially by ensuring the smooth operation and accessibility of the platform by all nominees.

In particular, the incumbent will:

  • Provide support to the management of the platform’s content.
  • Provide helpdesk to facilitate the candidates’ application process by effectively responding to candidates’ queries.
  • Assist users requesting access to the platform.
  • Review submissions and eligibility by ensuring all the requested information is received.
  • Assist the jury members in the use of the platform for their assessment.
  • Assist in the management of the platform for the award laureates.
  • Assist the Programme Specialist (SC/PBS/RIE) in all-encompassing set of administrative tasks related to the Prize.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Completed secondary, technical or vocational school.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 3 (three) years of relevant work experience in administrative tasks.

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to perform support functions in contracts’ drafting under routine supervision and follow up on extra-budgetary funding.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communications and working relationships with people of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds with tact and sensitivity to diversity.
  • Ability to work under pressure by respecting tight deadlines and establishing priorities.
  • Good organizational skills including planning, coordination and monitoring of work plans.
  • Good IT skills, including knowledge of standard office software.

Language

  • Excellent knowledge of English or French and good knowledge of the other.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Work Experience

  • Experience of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
  • Experience in assisting in the implementation of prizes, preferably at the international level.

Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of the UNESCO’s Natural Sciences projects.
  • Acquaintance with the rules, regulations, administrative procedures, and standard practices of an international organization.

Language

  • Knowledge of another official language of UNESCO (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish).

UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc.

The approximate annual starting salary for this post is 38 036 US $.
