This position is located in the Programme Office for the Gulf Cooperation Council Region (OGCCR), Regional Office for Middle East and North Africa (ROMENA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) with duty station in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Responsibilities
The Project Coordinator (Drug Control and Crime Prevention) will coordinate the development, implementation and monitoring of the Strategic Partnership with the GCC Countries and the related drug control, crime prevention and criminal justice programme portfolio, in order to best tailor UNODC’s assistance to the GCC Member States.
In consultation with the Representative and within assigned authority, the Project Coordinator (Drug Control and Crime Prevention) will carry out the following specific tasks:
• Support the continuous development and consolidation of the Strategic Partnership with the GCC Countries.
• Support joint efforts with host and GCC countries to coordinate and contribute to supporting regional, interregional and global drug control, crime prevention and criminal justice efforts, platforms and networks.
• Support the development and implementation of the programmatic and strategic framework of UNODC for the GCC region in areas of drug control, crime prevention and criminal justice.
• Support current and future programmatic and strategic efforts towards enhancement of forensic evidence mechanisms and standards within the framework of the Gulf Programme and relevant regional and global frameworks supported by the organization including the support of development and implementation of the current “Strategic Partnership with Abu Dhabi Police Forensic Evidence Department” together with national authorities and other international staff.
• Provide substantive contribution to the planning, management, coordination and implementation of drug control and crime prevention projects’ strategies and activities as outlined in the AREU51 project document “Establishment of the UNODC Sub-Regional Office for the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries”.
• Design work and action plans for the timely achievement of the drug control and crime prevention project objectives.
• Guide and orient the efforts and contributions of consultants, project personnel, and key stakeholders and counterparts involved in drug control and crime prevention projects towards the achievement of project objectives.
• Ensure effective financial management, monitoring and reporting of the project budget.
• Ensure efficient preparation and dissemination of information toolkits and training materials developed.
• Expedite and endorse submissions according to UNODC procedures and the project document, ensure timely project reviews, revisions, monitoring and completion of related reporting obligations, etc..
• Prepare terms of reference for national and international consultants/experts and identify possible candidates.
• Coordinate and guide the work of staff related to drug control and crime prevention activities recruited under the project including national and international consultants.
• Organize and implement training courses, seminars, working groups, workshops and study tours related to drug control and crime prevention activities.
• Identify needs and determine necessary actions to be taken and provide feedback on impact.
• Collect and analyze data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
• Perform other work-related duties as required.

Education
An advanced university (Master’s degree or equivalent) in the fields of law, criminology, public administration, political science, international relations or related fields of criminal justice, crime prevention and/or law enforcement is required. A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional work experience in project development and management at the national and international levels in the areas of drug control, crime prevention and criminal justice is required.
Work experience of programme management with the United Nations system or similar international organizations at country/regional level is desirable.
Relevant work experience with counterparts in the field is desirable.
Work experience in Project and Grant Management in an ERP system (SAP or similar) is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.

This is a project post. Filling of this position is subject to funding availability and the initial appointment will be for a period of one year. Extension of the appointment will be subject to extension of the mandate and/or the availability of the funds.
