Our current focus communities include: Alabama; Chicago, Illinois; Immokalee, Florida; Newark, New Jersey; New Bedford, Massachusetts; North Carolina; and Pima County, Arizona. We capture learnings from across this network to mobilize resources, advance policy change, and lay the groundwork for stronger community health systems nationally.
Position Overview:
The Project Lead will join the PIH-US North Carolina team to lead advocacy and community engagement efforts in support of technical advising and implementation accompaniment efforts at the state and local levels. Complementing PIH-US public sector accompaniment, the Project Lead will oversee strategy and implementation of advocacy efforts to advance policies that deepen investment in the community health workforce, empower community-based organizations to tackle today’s biggest issues, and strengthen local public health and health systems in North Carolina. The Project Lead will additionally lead PIH-US North Carolina community engagement efforts including statewide, regional, and local partnerships with the goal of ensuring community partners have the resources, relationships, and power necessary to identify, respond to, and meet the needs of the communities they serve. To achieve these goals, they will work closely with the PIH-US North Carolina technical advising (TA) team, advocacy team, marketing & communications team, and key external partners.

Community engagement (25%)
Advocacy (25%)
· Lead development of and oversee implementation of PIH-US North Carolina advocacy strategy with a focus on investing in the community health workforce, empowering community-based organizations, and strengthening local public health and health systems
· Provide strategic advising and subject matter expertise to PIH-US staff and key allies to organize and manage coalitions of diverse organizational allies to build power behind advocacy campaigns
· Manage PIH-US North Carolina advocacy staff and collaborate closely with PIH-US advocacy team to execute advocacy strategies at the state and local level
· Lead the PIH-US North Carolina team in research, writing, editing, and publishing of policy papers, policy briefs, advocacy materials, reports and articles, and internal messaging through collaboration across teams, including Policy & Advocacy, Marketing and Communications, and Learning & Impact
Strategy development and broader partner engagement (25%):
· Identify and develop new opportunities together with PIH-US North Carolina leadership and key community partners for PIH-US to add value and maximize impact with advising support
· Liaise with Senior Project Lead, Public Sector and Systems Accompaniment to develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders in relevant government agencies and with other implementing and technical partners and manage communication channels to ensure continuity and transparency across partners
· Lead, facilitate, and organize meetings among the project partners, both in person and virtually
Project and grant management (25%):
· Manage and supervise 1-3 internal PIH-US project staff
· Oversee project management plan and approve project documents to support implementation
· Oversee project deliverables, including reports and other materials, to ensure highest quality standards are met
· Liaise with the Technical Lead, Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning to evaluate project performance across multiple workstreams using appropriate key performance indicators and project metrics for internal PIH-US reporting and external reporting to funders
· Provide regular reports on program and work progress to PIH-US leadership team, and liaise across other PIH-US teams
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in relevant fields related to public health desirable
· 6-8 years of experience in public health or community program development and implementation
· 4+ years of policy advocacy and community engagement required
· Experience collaborating with community health workers, community mobilization and engagement, and between public health or other governmental programs in North Carolina or other similar areas preferred
· Strong experience with or understanding of state-level legislative process with a track record of providing advice to and influencing policy makers
· Proven experience crafting and executing strategy for innovative initiatives and the detailed steps necessary to achieve goals, particularly in partnership with community partners
· Demonstrated experience in independently and effectively managing and prioritizing several projects simultaneously in a complex and fast-paced setting across numerous partners.
· Strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills; ability to build strong professional relationships with staff and leadership across a diverse range of departments, organizations, and experience levels.
· Demonstrated cultural competency with expertise working with diverse, multi-lingual individuals and communities. Familiarity with the communities being served and keen ability to build trust with others.
· Sound judgment and ability to handle confidential information with discretion
· Grant writing and reporting experience preferred
· Strong written and verbal communication skills, including delivery of compelling presentations and documents in Microsoft PowerPoint and Word
· Commitment to social justice and health equity is essential
