The Solomon Islands Knowledge-Action-Sustainability for Resilient Villages (SOLKAS) Project is one of the largest locally led adaptation projects globally, and one of the first with a strong focus on the education sector. Largely funded under the Green Climate Fund (GCF), it has been designed to reduce children, youth and communities’ exposure to climate hazards and build sustainable, resilient communities and livelihoods in the context of climate change.

Working with communities across six provinces, the project will strengthen resilience to climate change impacts by strengthening the capacities of national, subnational, and local governments, communities, and schools to understand, adapt, plan and implement responses to climate crises.

Where you come in:

In this full-time, 6-year term position, based in Honiara, you will overseeing the technical supervision of the SOLKAS project implementation, as well as manage through to project completion. A critical appointment for the SOLKAS project, you will provide day-to-day technical support and coordination between government ministries and departments at national, provincial and Ward level, ensuring project plans are implemented in line with agreed timeframes and terms.

You will make an impact by:

• Leading high quality, results orientated and compliant planning, implementation, and reporting,
• Providing strong leadership, guidance, and supervision of the PMU staff,
• Utilising strong stakeholder management skills to be the conduit between the project and the Solomon Islands Government, SCSI, SCA and other key partners,
• Providing Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) oversight for the project, and
• Ensuring all project reporting and documentation meet donor quality standards and requirements are submitted on-time to the various project stakeholders.

Does this sound like you?

…A skilful relationship management, you have extensive experience managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders and partners. You’re familiar with the nuances of the Pacific region and understand the context and necessary working styles to engage and deliver appropriately. Importantly, you’re driven to bring real impact within climate-change and have the necessary depth of Project Management skills and experience to ensure the SOLKAS project delivers on its objectives, within agreed terms and timeframes.

This role requires:

• Previous experience at a senior level, such as Team Leader, Chief of Party or similar. for a multilateral funded program,
• Proven project management skills, including successfully delivering large-scale complex projects from initiation to completion,
• Demonstrated strategic planning skills, including strong time management, administrative and organisational skills, and
• Proven experience operating within a complex environment and dealing with sometimes competing priorities and ambiguity.
