OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

Under the general supervision of the Director of the Division of Ecological and Earth Sciences (EES), the specific supervision of the Chief of Section, Division of Ecological and Earth Sciences/MAB Research and Policy: Ecology and Biodiversity (EES/ESP), and Chief of Section, Solution Design and Implementation in the Bureau for Digital Business Solutions (DBS), the incumbent shall provide support to the Chief to support the development of the MAB database, which includes supporting the digitalization process of data and workflows, conducting data-collection, and promoting data integration to the UNESCO Biodiversity Portal

Long Description

In particular, the incumbent shall be required to perform the following duties:

  • Support the MAB digitalization process by coordinating and following-up with colleagues as appropriate and ensure decisions are taken in a timely manner to provide inputs to database developers
  • Provide technical support and advice on the organization and management of MAB workflows, users and documents
  • Support the organization, cleaning and data-collection relevant for MAB database tables
  • Identify, categorize and retrieve files pertaining to the statutory work and projects of the MAB into a single repository.

Long Description

  • Support the digitalization of existing MAB statutory data including nomination forms and periodic reviews
  • Support the redesign of MAB’s forms to create a reporting system for key indicators that will be integrated to the UNESCO Biodiversity Portal and ensure proper documentation is ready for review and validation by MAB statutory bodies
  • Coordinate with UNESCO internal stakeholders and external partners participating to the development of the UNESCO Biodiversity Portal by attending related meeting
  • Ensure technical backstopping for the MAB database and its use during associated events (e.g., UNESCO General Conference).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Advanced university (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Data Science, Database management, Environmental Management or related fields.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • At least 4 years of experience in Database management or related field, with proven experience with quantitative and qualitative data management, of which preferably 1 year acquired at international level.

EDUCATION

  • University degree in Geography, Environmental Sciences or related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Experience with database development
  • Previous experience in an international environment (i.e. the United Nations (UN) common system and/or International Organisation).

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

  • Proven experience using geospatial databases, analysis and software (ArcGIS or QGIS).
  • Intermediate/Advanced knowledge of MS office tools: Excel, Power Point, and Word utilities.

LANGUAGE

  • Intermediate level of Spanish (spoken and written).

UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc.

The approximate annual starting salary for this post is US $ 98,169.25.
