Key Responsibilities:
Major Activities
Community engagement and formation of producer groups/coop
- Mobilize communities and other stakeholders, and create awareness about the project
- Organize inception meeting targeting the district and lower level government stakeholders, and other partners
- Form/re-organize/identify the targeted number of producer groups and cooperatives required per district
- Build the institutional capacity of cooperatives on leaderships, governance, record keeping, and contract management- both through partners(public and private) and directly through training
Technical implementation
- Mobilize target communities for project activities such as trainings, reflection meeting, e.t.c
- Carryout district wide campaigns through radio programs on the different themes and as per the project objectives
- Develop annual work plan and budget, and activity memos
- Oversee the implementation of activities that are to be done by partners(government and other community level trainers), including, managing the submission of the narrative report for the activity/ies.;
- Build capacity of the project participants and partners (in their groups) on the project approaches, model and practices in accordance with the project design and develop training models, e.g., on climate smart agriculture, Post- harvest handling, entrepreneurship and business management, financial literacy, DRR;
- Build managerial and operational capacity of local disaster Risk Management communities in all the 10 targeted districts and 20 sub counties and support them to develop contingency plans.
- Develop and publish Information, Education and communication(IEC) materials on common hazards and document good practices.
- Ensure that the project activities are effectively implemented on time and within budget.
- Connect SMEs to financiers, technology providers, production inputs and support in assessing SMEs for matching grants.
- Work with the community structures (government extension agents, community volunteers/ToTs) to identify technical capacity gaps and challenges for beneficiaries which should inform planning and implementation of project activities
- Prepare project updates for periodic review meetings
- Generates new ideas and approaches, researches best practices and propose new, more effective ways to improve implementation and the realization of the desired outputs and outcomes;
Strategic collaboration
- Utilize market facilitation approaches to strengthen input and output market systems
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with key stakeholders, including local government, non-government organizations, and private actors at the field level;
- Connect producer groups and SMEs to markets through facilitating their representatives to exhibitions and tradeshows
- Represent WV and the project in field level stakeholder engagements such as meetings, workshops and Inter-agency coordination platforms or sector working meetings;
- Organize and conduct review meetings with stakeholders to reflect on progress, impact of interventions, best practices, exit and sustainability strategies as well as create opportunities for action-learning;
- Facilitate coordination and dialogue efforts at district level through annual meetings in in the targeted districts.
Monitoring, documentation and Reporting and learning
•Manage the monitoring of project implementation and finances using results based management tools
- Develop internal monitoring and operational plan and monitor project activities by partners (government and community volunteers;
- Facilitate spot checks of the implemented activities by partners at the field level;
- Plan, coordinate and organize regularly joint monitoring of the project activities in the field;
- Timely preparation and submission of required reports, as per the requirements of the donor and WVU. Ensure all reports are delivered according to high quality standards;
- Ensure that all project data, information on implementation and financial progress are duly maintained with transparently, efficiency, and effectively in line with donor and WVU rules and regulations;
- Take lead in documentation and sharing of project Impact/success stories and best practice; proper documentation and dissemination of success stories and lesson learned for replication of project activities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Minimum education, training and experience requirements to qualify for the position:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Agribusiness, climate and/or environmental science or a related field
Technical skills: academic and/or direct programming experience and expertise in at least three of the following thematic areas is required: natural resources, climate change mitigation and adaptation; financial inclusion/micro-finance; value chain development; small enterprise development; livelihoods programming, Minimum of 3 years’ experience in field-based project management, implementation or related area. Experience in provision of climate resilient agricultural support and agribusiness management is desirable. Experience working with development institutions and/or NGOs is desirable
List additional work experience required as a minimum qualification for this position.
Must be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities. Computer literacy Willing to attend and participate/lead in daily devotions and weekly Chapel services. Perform other duties as required
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- Experience in working with producers, micro and medium-sized enterprises(MSMEs) Analytical skills, Computer skills (word, Excel, powerpoint preferred), Communication skill, Reporting skills, and Motorcycle riding skills and a valid permit.
Work Environment:
- The position is field-based with no international travels. It will require long inter-district travels in hard terrain and insecure places sometimes.
