Project Research Manager (Adv#142/2024)

The primary objective of the project which is under Programme for Emerging Infection is to strengthen Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS) activities across different implementing sites, including areas with full HDSS implementations and areas using sampling strategies. In addition, the project will provide technical assistance to other sites such as data collection, data quality, meeting operations, scientific and informatics competencies, and ongoing methodological support for HDSS activities.

Brief Description of Position:

The Project Research Manager will be mainly responsible for performing following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Tools Development, Data Analysis, Share findings;
  • Development of different tools and metrics;
  • Review Harmonized data collection tools under the guidance of Senior Research Investigator and Demographer;
  • Critically assess HDSS data quality of different sites;
  • Rigorous scientific analysis and identify the gaps and derive meaningful inferences;
  • Discuss preliminary findings within the team members;
  • Develop draft report and finalize it after getting feedback from Demographer and other senior team members;
  1. Monitoring, Evaluation and Process Improvement
  • Develop evaluation and monitoring tools, questionnaires and data collection instruments for evaluation of projects;
  • Prepare checklist to assure quality of data;
  • Review existing tools and recommend for improvement;
  • Analyze feedback and learning from projects on management issues (e.g. geographic considerations, timelines, challenges, demographic issues, practical issues for timelines across all studies);
  • Identify gaps and areas for improvement; Discuss findings and share consolidated report with PI;
  • Propose recommendations for modification and secure approval (e.g. checklist for protocol development, career planning process);
  • Develop guidelines and manuals for implementation;
  • Guide team to implement changes;
  • Trouble shoot issues in order to ensure continuous progress monitoring and constantly improvise the project implementation processes;
  1. Project Management:
  • Create detailed project plan covering milestones, deliverables etc;
  • Train people on data collection; Field-test and finalize data collection tools;
  • Assign work to team and initiate activities as per project plan; Supervise data collection;
  • Monitor quality of data collected, take corrective actions to comply with donor mandates and research protocols in order to complete the research, with adherence to quality standards and project timelines;
  • Coordinate with local and overseas sites to understand the merits and demerits of the work plan implementation;
  1. Strategic and Local Level Planning:
  • Develop draft work plan in line with the objectives of projects;
  • Coordinate with local and overseas sites to understand the merits and demerits of the work plan implementation;
  • Submit final draft to Supervisor for review;
  • Incorporate changes for finalization;
  • Secure approval on the final work plan for implementation in order to achieve the highest result from the project Harmonization of data collection tools under the guidance of Demographer;
  1. Research Protocol development;
  • Estimate requirements for financial and non-financial resources based on research methodology;
  • Circulate protocol drafts internally and externally, seek feedback and modify accordingly;
  • Seek approval from Finance, RRC, ERC etc. on protocol;
  • Coordinate with Research Administration (RA) for registering projects with government / international authorities and for securing licenses or approvals for research-related activities; Contribute to other colleagues’ research protocols in order to develop effective protocols that meet the research objectives

Required qualification and experience:

  • Master’s degree in Statistics/ Biostatistics/Population Science from a reputed university with good academic records.
  • Minimum Five (5) years of experiences in Health & Demographic Surveillance System/population-based household surveys and/or health projects preferably in health research.

Location: Dhaka.

Contract Type and duration:

  • Fixed Term; duration will be 01 years with a possibility of extension subject to availability of fund and performance.

Salary & benefits:

  • Annual Tk. 18,88,370/- inclusive of house rent, conveyance, and other admissible benefits;
  • 14.8% provident fund contribution, income tax paid by icddr,b, children allowance @Tk.1,917/- per child per month, festival bonus, contributory healthcare support including dependent spouse and children, group life insurance, and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
