Project Research Physician (Adv#169/2023)

The Maternal and Child Health Division of icddr,b has been working to design and develop Thermal Jacket to support Kangaroo Mother Care. The primary objective of Thermal Jacket is to help preterm or low-birth-weight neonates to attain and maintain euthermia by providing an insulating environment created with locally available materials.

Position Description

The Project Research Physician will be reporting to the project PI (Principal Investigator) or the project focal person. S/he will also be responsible for implementing research activities to generate knowledge through identifying, and recruiting study participants, data collecting, and quality monitoring following the research protocols, organizational values, and guidelines, e.g. Institutional Governance Framework – IGF and Gender Diversity Guidelines. The intended person requires medical background with experience in working with preterm or low birth weight newborns. S/he should also be experienced in research activities in maternal and child health.

  • Identify, counsel and recruit study participants in the selected health facilities;
  • Regular monitoring of the nurse and collect data collection;
  • Regular liaison with the Government and other stakeholders working in the project;
  • Working in coordination with other implementing partners;
  • Address queries made by supervisors, investigators, and donors, and finalize clinical reports;
  • Supervise and troubleshoot field problems, if required;
  • Document project milestone achievements. Prepare and share weekly and monthly reports, work plans, and deliverables;
  • Review the information of collected data and develop possible manuscript ideas under the guidance of Principal Investigator and Co-investigators;
  • Create content for the application considering contextual and age-specific perspectives;
  • Create reports with findings and share them with the supervisor;
  • Write sections of the manuscript under the supportive guidance of the supervisor;
  • Besides providing feedback to support scientific manuscript writing, review and edit manuscripts;
  • Support team members on the completion of tasks, reports, and documents (e.g. research methods);
  • Provide on-the-job training to the junior staff;
  • Provide feedback on team members’ performance to the supervisor to develop an efficient team.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • MBBS degree from a Medical College recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council with completion of one-year internship training; Candidates having MPH will be given preference.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the relevant field.

Duty Station: Kushtia, Lakshmipur.

Contract Type and Duration:

  • Short-Term Contractual Service Agreement; duration will be 6 monthswith a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & benefits:

  • Taka 57,048/- (consolidated) per month inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances.
  • Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
