The European Department of the International Monetary Fund has an opening for a Projects Officer to work on the macroeconomic and distributional effects of policies to address climate change in Europe.

Under the supervision of the department’s lead on climate change matters, the selected candidate will drive the department’s analytical work and policy advice on climate change, with particular emphasis on the macroeconomic and distributional effects of mitigation efforts. The candidate will work with staff in the European Department’s climate and energy group and with other departments on analytical projects. He/she will also work with multiple country teams within the department, supporting their efforts to integrate the analysis of climate issues into macroeconomic surveillance, including through country missions as needed.

Qualifications

The successful candidate should have an advanced degree in economics and a very strong background in climate change economics with minimum 4 years of professional relevant experience.

He/she should have demonstrated the capacity to carry out high-quality policy-relevant research on macroeconomic or distributional aspects of climate issues, possess excellent analytical and technical skills, have the ability to write well and quickly as well as to communicate effectively with different audiences, the ability to exercise independent judgment, and strong leadership skills. The applicant should also have a strong interest in policy analysis and an excellent track record of both peer-reviewed academic papers and policy-relevant publications on climate change-related issues. Some familiarity with Integrated Assessment Models, Computable General Equilibrium or Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium models to examine climate-related policy issues would be a plus.
