Role and responsibilities
The purpose of the Protection Project Coordinator is to oversee the implementation of protection activities in the West region of Ukraine, both directly by NRC and by NRC implementing partners. The position with be managed by the Camp Management / UDOC Project Manager and will be technically supported by the country level Protection Specialist.
We are recruiting for a Project Coordinator for Protection based in Lviv with reach to Western region Oblasts as required. This individual will lead all NRC protection interventions, including management of Individual Protection Assistance (IPA) provision, establishment and maintenance of a protection referral mechanism, protection mainstreaming activities in collective sites, and provision of protection training and capacity building. In addition, this individual will significantly contribute to the support and supervision of NRC implementing partners conducting protection activities, including general case management and protection monitoring.
Generic responsibilities:
- Line management of Protection project field staff
- Ensure project adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures, with an awareness of NRC global and regional strategies
- Contribute to Protection context and risks analysis, to development of project proposals and provide input on needs and gaps
- Manage and implement delegated portfolio of Protection projects (activities, budget and project documentation) as delegated from Project Manager in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements, and ensure high technical quality
- Provide regular progress reports to Project Manager
- Promote and share ideas for improvement and necessary changes in the activities
- Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection, explore and asses new and better ways to assist
- Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer key skills, including delivery of training
- Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders
- Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in line with the advocacy strategy
Specific responsibilities
- Develop and maintain accurate and up-to-date regional protection partner service mapping.
- Lead the establishment of a two-way protection referral mechanism involving both protection agencies in the region, as well as relevant governmental departments, and ensure safe referral of cases within this mechanism.
- Oversee the delivery of Individual Protection Assistance (IPA) in line with approved procedures.
- Support the enabling of a protective environment in collective sites through protection mainstreaming activities, and protection training provision to relevant staff teams.
- Provide support and monitoring for NRC’s implementing protection partners, activities including General Protection Case Management and Protection monitoring.
- Represent NRC at external meetings including area level protection cluster meetings and bilateral meetings with partners and local authorities.
- Support in the development of the protection response at the area level with the flexibility to adapt programme activities depending on needs in the area.

- Project planning: Project Manager, Area Programme Manager, Area Manager and Protection Specialist
- Implementation: Protection Officer(s), Project Manager, Area Programme Manager, Protection Specialist, Support departments, CM/UDOC Project Coordinator and Team Leaders, other NRC programme teams, M&E Officers/Coordinators
- Staff capacity building: Protection Specialist, Project Manager, HR Development Officer
- Area operations: Area Programme Managers, Area Support Coordinators/Officers (field office coordinators/officers)
Competencies

- At least 3 years of professional experience, including in a leadership position
- Previous experience working with vulnerable populations
- Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
- Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal
Context related skills, knowledge and experience:
- Previous experience implementing Protection programming in the humanitarian or NGO sector, or previous experience or training in social work.
- Knowledge of protection principles and global protection best practices
- Awareness of national social support systems within Ukraine
- A commitment to provision of protection assistance according to global and local best practices.
- Flexibility and creativity in addressing protection risks and needs
