The Protection Officer is responsible for the direct implementation of Civilian Self Protection (CSP) activities, including leading conflict and risk assessments, holding workshops and capacity building for community groups, raising awareness, and developing and implementing strategies developed together with communities. The role involves working closely with at-risk individuals and communities to identify protection risks, provide tailored support, and strengthen community-based protection mechanisms. The Protection Officer plays a key role in ensuring the safety and dignity of affected populations and upholding protection standards.

Key Tasks and Assignments:

  • Facilitate community self-protection activities, working with local leaders, community groups, and volunteers to strengthen community resilience and reduce protection risks.
  • Conduct safety mapping and participatory risk assessments to identify protection threats and support communities in developing self-protection strategies.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor the protection situation, identify trends, and report protection incidents.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with relevant stakeholders including partner agencies, community leaders and representatives and service providers.
  • Utilize standardized data collection tools and methodologies to gather information on protection risks and concerns from affected communities.
  • Support in maintaining incidents and other databases as necessary.
  • Assist in identification of changes and/or trends related to the protection environment in his/her area of intervention.
  • Contribute to needs assessments, focus group discussions, and key informant interviews to inform program design and response planning.
  • Promote the collection of baseline data and indicators.
  • Ensure Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) approach to protection is consistently applied through community and right base participatory methods.
  • Produce monthly reports and support the Protection from Violence Coordinator/Program Development Manager in submitting internal reports as per schedule.
  • Assess, promote, and document ideas for technical improvement and further programme development options, and to ensure Safe and Inclusive Programming.
  • Oversee and ensure achievements of targets of activities according to NRC and donors’ requirements through management of the Protection from Violence activities under his/her supervision. 

Key Education and Skills Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Law, Humanities, and Peace and Conflict studies or any other relevant qualification.
  • At least 3 years’ experience implementing Protection Case Management and community-based protection programs in humanitarian settings, especially in Cox’s Bazar and Bashan char.
  • Experience with Civilians Self-Protection (CSP) activities and programming.
  • Experience working in a humanitarian/recovery context is an asset
  • Demonstrable technical expertise in the assessment of, design, and delivery of relevant CSP programming.
  • Previous training in protection risk reduction and/or protection of civilians.
  • Experience working with information data management (protection).
  • Good knowledge of data protection standards.
  • Strong experience in training and capacity-building on Protection technical areas with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Experience in internal and external coordination and representation of programmes.
  • Very strong interpersonal and teamwork skills; collaborative approach with the ability to work within different cultural environments.
  • Positive and solutions-oriented leader focused on team building, problem-solving, and support to the teams and beneficiary communities.
  • Level of knowledge and practice with Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. required.
  • Understanding the rights and protection issues of Rohingya Refugees is an advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills both in Bangla and English.
  • Knowledge of Chittagonian language.

  • 80% travel within the programme area, approximately.
  • Grade 06 in NRC’s Salary Scale monthly Gross Salary is 75,716 BDT, with accompanying terms and conditions. NRC offers an excellent compensation and benefits package.
