  1. Role and responsibilities

Generic responsibilities

The overall purpose of the protection team leader (camp-based) is to provide technical support to the team, manage/supervision of the field team on daily basis, and dealing with local authorities as needed.

  1. Manage project staff at field office level.
  2. Implement plan of action for the delegated protection portfolio (activities, budget, and documentation).
  3. Follow up day-to-day progress in project implementation.
  4. Ensure compliance with NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines.
  5. Ensure that project activities target beneficiaries most in need, and explore and asses new and better ways to assist.
  6. Promote and share ideas for technical improvement.
  7. Prepare periodic progress reports and other documents.
  8. Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer key skills.
  9. Liaison and collaborate with relevant local authorities and stakeholders.
  10. Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in line with the advocacy strategy.

Specific responsibilities 

These responsibilities shall be adapted to the particularities of the job location and context, phase of operation, strategic focus and type of programme intervention. This section shall be revised whenever a new employee is hired or the context changes significantly.

  • In coordination with the Protection Coordinator and the protection team, develop, update and monitor the monthly/quarterly workplan and flag any challenges/constrains to the line manager
  • Provide technical guidance on protection monitoring activities, protection case management, protection assessments, and individual protection assistance (IPA). Seek technical support from the Protection Coordinator, as necessary.
  • Conduct regular capacity assessment of the team. Develop training plan and assist the line manager in conducting relevant trainings.
  • Regularly update service mapping and internal referral pathway in coordination with the Community Consultation and Referral (CCR) Team
  • Provide constructive feedback to the team on their reports to ensure their development and quality reporting thought one-to-one sessions and/or team meetings.
  • Support overall budget and procurement oversight, in collaboration with the Protection Coordinator and Project Manager.
  • Contribute to donor reports on project outputs and activities, according to specified internal timelines.
  • Collaborate with NRC Core Competencies, M&E and CCR Teams to ensure quality and context-appropriate inputs and work closely with Support and Logistics Units, as necessary and required by the line manager.
  • Liaise and engage with relevant external stakeholders, as needed.
  • Represent NRC Maungdaw Protection Team at relevant internal and external meetings, as required by the line manager.

  • Experience in coordinating and supervising project implementation within an international or local organization in a humanitarian context.
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts.
  • Previous experience in conducting or overseeing protection related activities.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of international standards, and protection fundamental concepts and guiding principles.
  • Ability to manage a team.
  • Ability to analyse and integrate information from a wide range of sources.
  • Mastery of IT tools (MS Office package, internet, e-mail, etc.).
  • Good knowledge of English, both written and verbal.

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge, and experience: 

  • Knowledge of the context in the geographical area of responsibility is desirable but not essential.
  • Knowledge of the local language.
