Org. Setting and Reporting
The mandate of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is to promote sustainable and inclusive development and regional connectivity in the Asian and Pacific region. ESCAP’s role as a regional development arm of the United Nations Secretariat is to support its membership with policy oriented research and analysis, normative support and technical assistance and capacity building, to respond to the development priorities and changing needs of the Asian and Pacific region. The Communications and Knowledge Management Section provides media, web and knowledge services, helping disseminate key messages and support progress towards meeting the 2030 Agenda in the region. The Library ensures that ESCAP staff have the data and research tools they need in order to provide reliable and relevant guidance to the region and provides access to its knowledge products via a variety of digital initiatives This position is located in the Communications and Knowledge Management Section (CKMS). The incumbent reports to the Associate Public Information Officer.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Associate Public Information Officer, and overall supervision of the Chief of the Section, the incumbent is required to perform the following functions: • Provides general office administrative support; sets up and maintains files/records, organizes meetings, monitors deadlines, etc. • Provides specialized assistance to officers in the production and delivery of information communications products and services. • Manages, updates and further develops the ESCAP branding guidelines; advises Divisions and design companies and/or consultants on the communications products in conformity with the UN and ESCAP guidelines. • Researches, compiles and presents basic information for use in the preparation and production of communications products/services. • Serves as photographic assistant by producing digital imaging, producing photo prints, and serving as back-up photographer; write captions for UN photos. • Coordinates media coverage of important events; liaises with news and publications agencies, public relations firms, UN photographers, etc. to provide advance notice of, and information on, upcoming meetings, briefings and special events and to ascertain coverage requirements; coordinates technical arrangements and organizes and allocates space for visiting news, photo, TV and film personnel; evaluates and processes applications for UN security clearances/accreditations. • Participates in the multimedia planning and coordination of events and exhibits; liaises with relevant departments/agencies; drafts and edits production schedules, and supports ESCAP social media channels. • Using relevant computer software, creates designs in appropriate format for promotional and other material, e.g. brochures, presentational materials, announcements, video and audio material, etc.; ensures that photos, graphics, etc. are appropriate and conform to UN standards for print materials. • Ensures availability and appropriate packaging of products for distribution at special events, exhibits, conferences, media functions, etc. • Assists in the production and editing of video/film projects to showcase ESCAP work and initiatives, including preparing scripts, shooting events and campaigns, editing short videos, selecting and cataloging sound and visual materials for inclusion in productions, and handing clearances and copyrights; scheduling productions and directing studio video message recordings and/or evaluating audio quality of recordings for inclusion in communications platforms. • Monitors the performance of digital audio workstations and other computer-based editing systems with respect to proper digital file management; review entries, file storage, retention and deletion practices to ensure consistent application of basic guidelines; identifies problems/issues and liaises with appropriate personnel for their resolution. • Provides guidance/training to junior staff. • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. • Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures. • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required. A first-level university degree may be accepted in lieu of two years of required experience.
Job – Specific Qualification
A first-level university degree in arts, fine arts, graphic design, digital media, communications, public information, international relations or related area, is desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years (or three years if graduated with a first-level university degree) of progressively responsible experience in public communication, journalism, media advertising, graphic design, international broadcasting or related area is required. Experience working in international environment is desirable. Experience in Adobe Creative Cloud or similar application for editing photos/video is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
