Public Information Intern Duties and Responsibilities: UN jobs New York
The internship is located in the Office of the Under-Secretary-General (OUSG) of the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM). DGACM provides procedural and technical support for the intergovernmental meetings of Member States of the United Nations.
The intern will work under the supervision of the Special Assistant to the Under-Secretary-General and the Communications Officer. Candidates are encouraged to highlight their specific skills and/or experience in their application. More information is available at https://www.un.org/dgacm/en.
The selected intern will perform duties to include, but not limited to the following:
• Assist with ongoing communication campaigns by designing graphics and drafting texts for social media, in line with the Department’s core messages;
• Assist with communications projects by organizing and formatting content;
• Assist with video projects, including the production planning, the execution and the post-production editing;
• Assist with analysis of social media metrics;
• Assist with the production of departmental communication products, including conducting research, compiling information and coordinating logistics;
• Assist with preparations for Language Days and other special events;
• Perform other tasks as necessary.
Qualifications/special skills
Please note that to qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
• Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
• Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent) Applicants must also:
• Be computer literate in standard software applications, including Microsoft Office 365, and have good knowledge of graphic design platforms, including Canva, as well as the Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including Premiere Pro.
• Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter
• Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this UN jobs New York internship, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Assessment: Candidates will be assessed based on their Candidate Profile (CP). Individual interviews and/or tests may be conducted for further assessment. For internships in the United States of America, interns who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or not currently in the United States on a nonimmigrant visa status will be required to obtain a G-4 visa. If already in the United States of America on another non-immigrant visa status other than G-4, interns will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa, and if required, employment authorization, allowing them to undertake the internship. A completed online application (Cover Note and Candidate Profile) is required. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
