Duties and Responsibilities
UNIS Vienna is part of the global network of United Nations Information Centres, which are part of the Department of Global Communications (DGC) of the United Nations Secretariat. As the UN Information Centre, UNIS Vienna serves as the local voice of the UN in four client countries – Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, and Slovenia. It aims to promote an informed understanding of the work and goals of the United Nations in these countries by reaching out to media, government, academia, schools, and civil society organizations. The Internship position is located in the News and Media Unit, United Nations Information Service UNIS, Vienna (Austria). The Intern will support the team performing the following duties which may include, but are not limited to: – Monitoring of German language Austrian media coverage for various Austrian national and UN topics; – Translating and summarizing of articles for a daily press review; – Following press conference by the Austrian Government and summarizing key points; – Drafting content for social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram); – Drafting, editing and translating a wide range of media texts, including press releases, online articles in German and English and website texts; – Assisting with research on specific topics; – Assisting in the full production cycle of videos, photos and audio to promote specific UN topics and the work of the organization; – Assisting in the preparation, implementation and follow-up of press briefings, outreach and awareness-raising events as well as high-level visits/conferences; – Performing other tasks as necessary.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this Internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. Fluency in oral and written German is highly desirable. Knowledge of a UNIS client country language (Hungarian, Slovak, Slovene) is an additional asset
