Org. Setting and Reporting

This post is in the Content Services Unit, Meetings Support Section (MSS), Meetings and Publishing Division (MPD), of the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management, New York. Under the general supervision of the Chief, Content Services Unit, the incumbent reports to the Team Leader (Digital Printing).

Responsibilities

Within limits of delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

• Participates, as a member of a team, in operating digital printing equipment.
• Operates the digital printing equipment in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Takes responsibility for identifying hazardous tasks/operations in accordance with the guidelines set out in the SOPs.
• Receives jobs in a variety of formats, e.g. PDF or native file
• Interfaces, as required, with the Front Desk to ensure a complete understanding of the job.
• Maintains knowledge of safety requirements of job and equipment.
• Maintains a clean and well-organized work area.
• Informs supervisor of equipment problems.
• Operates finishing equipment in conjunction with digital printing equipment.
• Performs operator level maintenance on the digital printing equipment in accordance with manufacturer/vendor’s specifications.
• Monitors and manages inventory of supplies. Orders and stocks supplies as instructed by supervisor.
• Assists more junior staff as required.
• Rotates in shifts, as well as weekend on-call duties, as needed.
• Depending on the needs of the service, availability for overtime is expected.
• Performs other related work as required.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in-house production printing or related area is required.

Experience in the operation of digital printing equipment is required.

Experience within a conference servicing environment is required.

Understanding of publishing systems and practices for documents is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Special Notice
