Duties and Responsibilities
Interested applicants who are working with UNSOS/UNSOM Contractors must fulfil the obligations of their contracts with the UN Contractors to be eligible to apply for this vacancy. Job is in high risk and harsh climatic conditions such as dust, at times muddy, extremely high temperature, airport noise, restricted living conditions, may be required to share communal bathroom, may be required to travel in-country by light airplane, helicopter, and armoured personnel carrier. Will be required to carry and use communication radio, will be required to carry, and wear personal protective equipment (PPE) weighing approximately 10 kg/22lbs and may have to contend with restricted diet as provided for the rest of the mission staff. This position is located within the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS). The QA/QC Technician reports to Chief Engineering and Facility Management Section (EFMS) through the Chief of Electromechanical Unit and is responsible for providing oversight/ technical and administrative functions in the Electromechanical Unit required works for electromechanical equipment such as Generators, HVAC etc. Within delegated authority, the QA/QC Technician will be responsible for the following duties: Plans, schedules and supervises implementation of installation and maintenance of electromechanical equipment. • Monitor Plant and Equipment Maintenance (PEM) Contractors installation, servicing, maintenance and repair of UNSOS Equipment, in compliance with recognized standards and regulations pertaining to safety and installation of codes, generators set including mechanical installations, refrigeration, air-conditioning, solar systems and HVAC . • Assesses requirements for the electrical installation, repairs and maintenance of engineering equipment. On the basis of the assessment, drafts technical or assessment reports; determines work requirements, and issues work orders and work assignments to assistants and technicians. • Diagnoses problems and develops solutions for malfunctioning or defective engineering equipment or systems (GENSETS, Kitchen field Equipment, WTP, Reefers etc). • Coordinates with Electromechanical Unit (EMU) Contractors the installation, servicing, maintenance and repair of engineering equipment, in compliance with recognized standards and regulations pertaining to safety and installation codes. • Supervises the quality of the work carried by contractors in accordance with set schedules. Provides inputs related to their quality. • Inspects and reports on construction, installation and maintenance projects carried out either by contractors or tradesmen and staff under supervision. • Apply and ensure adherence to safety programmes related to the safe operation of air-conditioning and refrigeration installations, electrical systems, generating sets or power tools and equipment of the building and maintenance trade. Identify resources requirements for his/her area of responsibility in connection with budget preparations. • Monitor the daily electrical and HVAC issues work orders (iNeeds) and timely attend the issue and reporting. • Regular maintenance Schedule monitoring for all the mission electromechanical equipment and supervision of their installation and maintenance by the contractor. • Reads and interprets specifications and technical drawings for construction, installations and upgrade of infrastructure. • Update maintenance of records relating to quality issues, work orders and general correspondence. • Performs other related duties as required. Work implies frequent interaction with the following: Internal and external clients, Engineering personnel, logistics personnel, contractors.
Qualifications/special skills
A first-level university degree in Mechanical Engineering. At least eight (8) years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering project implementation, quality control and quality assurance in a private, commercial, or military environment, including operations, installation, and service maintenance is required. Previous experience in a post conflict environment or other field operations is desirable. 4-wheeler national driving license ability to write clearly and concisely, and ability to write objective reports, basic Microsoft office tools, being trainable in the system to raise notifications.
