JOB PURPOSE
To develop and implement people-powered campaigning strategies, managing and coordinating actions on human rights concerns by using and developing knowledge on country of focus – Myanmar – and as directed, other geographical and thematic areas, and supporting and liaising with Amnesty International (AI) movement and outside networks to ensure maximum impact.
ABOUT YOU
You will be able to motivate and inspire others toward activism for change whilst representing Amnesty in a variety of forums particularly with civil society and the Amnesty International membership. You will have a demonstrated commitment to human rights and be able to manage projects, conflicting demands, and adjusting priorities to meet deadlines.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- To contribute to the development of overarching research/people powered campaigning strategies to deliver impact, aimed at effecting change in the human rights situation.
- To write or otherwise devise campaigning and other materials for external and internal use, such as reports, annual report entries, public statements, web features, audio-visual materials and government correspondence, petitions, social media copy, activism, and mass mobilisation materials.
- To continuously research the most effective ways to campaign on human rights concerns where peoplepower is key and monitor and conduct evaluations of campaigning strategies and plans.
- To contribute to the development of sub-regional and region-wide strategies and plans for research and campaigning and provide input into internal discussions on the AI mission, policy, organizational and other issues to increase the effectiveness of AI’s work.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience of strategic people-powered campaigning, including knowledge of the steps required to devise campaigning strategy and awareness of the need for actions and campaigning techniques to be based on strategies and be adapted to effect changes in each situation.
- Knowledge of the sub-region in general and a specialist knowledge in relation to country of focus – Myanmar – and other geographical areas or thematic issues in your brief
- Fluent written and spoken English and Burmese is essential. Ability to understand and express ideas in essential language/s in a fluent, clear, and concise way, both orally and in writing, and to communicate complex information and institutional positions.
