Job Description

In this key leadership role in the Kimberley, you’ll work closely alongside the local community to champion creative and innovative solutions which transform the lives of children in disadvantage.

54 reasons is Australia’s leading child rights organisation – no ordinary not-for-profit.

Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we’re here to make sure that everyone understands their rights, so that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

With the child’s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers, advocating with them so that children develop, learn, and are connected, safe and confident. Our people are proudly local, reflective of the communities we serve – in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities.

Where you come in:

In this full-time, permanent role based in Kununurra, you’ll oversee 54 reason’s regional strategy opportunities in far North Western Australia. A key component of this is meaningful engagement and partnership with the local Aboriginal Controlled organisations in order to achieve positive outcomes for the children and youth in the region.

Your areas of responsibility will be broad and include delivering the regional strategy, staff support and supervision, planning and evaluation of programs and stakeholder engagement.

Reporting to the Director WA, you’ll lead and inspire a team of three direct reports. Your role will involve occasional intrastate travel.

You will make an impact by:

  • Leading and developing resilient, engaged teams across a diverse program portfolio, including Youth Justice, Education, Children’s Connect and Case Management services
  • Working with local leaders to codesign solutions aimed at strengthening community
  • Proactively developing existing and designing new programs in line with our organisational strategy
  • Monitoring and evaluating the performance of our programs
  • Building meaningful relationships with a wide range of stakeholders

Does this sound like you?

You’re a respectful, resilient and adaptable leader who loves inspiring a diverse team to create positive outcomes for children. Being a strategic thinker, you continuously look for further opportunities to enhance and expand ways to maximise impact on children, young people and families.

You’re passionate about working with Aboriginal communities and related organisations and know how to establish and maintain strong relationships that contribute to the quality of our programs, resulting in better outcomes for children.

This role requires:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Youth Work, Community Development or a related field, or significant equivalent experience
  • Commitment to First Nation’s People’s right to self determination
  • Sound experience with complex strategic planning, program management and delivery
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team, driving high performance and growth
  • Experience working in remote communities in Australia and managing teams remotely
  • Excellent knowledge of current structures and relevant policies of Local, State and Commonwealth Governments

Working at 54 reasons is more than just a job.

We are a learning organisation that invests in the development and wellbeing of our people. Our workforce is around 700 people strong, and proudly diverse, whether in race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexuality, cultures and beliefs.

We are creative, connected and accountable, bringing energy, guts and ideas to all we do to champion children in Australia and partner with families, communities and partners to bring about change.

Our people work from both home and office, with important moments held in-person to foster belonging and support professional development. Our leave provisions include personal, ceremonial and family violence leave as well as the ability to purchase additional leave.
