The Green Climate Fund (GCF)—a critical element of the historic Paris Agreement—is the world’s largest climate fund mandated to support low-emission, climate-resilient development pathways. As an operating entity of the financial mechanism of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), GCF contributes to the goal of keeping an average global temperature rise well below two degrees Celsius.

GCF seeks to engage a Report Writer Consultant to provide services remotely and in person at GCF Board meetings. The assignment is for an initial 75 days over an 11-month period.

Role

The Report Writer Consultant will report to the Board Information Manager and will be responsible for preparing the reports of the Green Climate Fund Board meetings in the year 2024. Follow-up work will also be required to finalize the reports.

Duties and responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Board Information Manager, the Report Writer Consultant will:

  • Attend GCF Board meetings in 2024;
  • Take minutes at Board meetings;
  • Draft the official reports for GCF Board meetings in 2024, including any informal Board meetings;
  • Prepare the initial drafts of reports, incorporate comments received, and finalize the reports for approval by the Board Co-Chairs;
  • Review drafts of the reports with designated GCF staff;
  • Ensure clarity of content, cohesion, structure, consistency of format, accuracy of grammar (including abbreviations), and conformity of the report with other official documents prepared by GCF, in accordance with approved document guidelines;
  • Consult with the Secretary to the Board and other GCF staff to clarify ambiguities and rectify substantive errors;
  • Transcribe audio from Board meetings to help clarify questions arising from Board members after meetings;
  • Draft other (minor) notes or input to Board documents that may be required at Board meetings;
  • Prepare fully edited and final GCF Board reports;
  • Submit the initial draft of each report within the three weeks following a Board meeting; and
  • Submit the final report for publication on the GCF website within the five weeks following a Board meeting.

Required experience and qualifications

  • A Master’s (preferred) or Bachelor’s degree in linguistics or literature (English), international relations, political science, environmental studies or a related field;
  • At least seven to nine (7 -9) years relevant work experience in the preparation and revision of complex documents, of which two years should have been for an international organization;
  • Previous working experience with the intergovernmental process and the work of the United Nations or another international organization, in particular with report writing;
  • Ideally, previous experience working with the UNFCCC or related organizations in a similar role;
  • Must have sound written, editorial and analytical abilities coupled with excellent organizational and planning skills; and
  • Mother tongue English.
