Duties and Responsibilities
Background: ESCWA Knowledge Repository aims to collect, organize, preserve all ESCWA knowledge products in one online database. The Repository enables the sharing, availability, and accessibility of all ESCWA intellectual products under open access policy. Duties and Responsibilities: The Repository Librarian will be responsible in fulfilling the following tasks: Collect knowledge products (Press releases, multimedia items) from different ESCWA databases. Submission of the knowledge products into the ESCWA Knowledge Repository. Descriptive analysis of the knowledge products in the ESCWA Knowledge Repository Subject analysis of the knowledge products in ESCWA Knowledge Repository. Quality check of bibliographical records in ESCWA Knowledge Repository. Ensure that all records ’metadata are compatible with international cataloging standards, such Dublin Core.
Qualifications/special skills
A Bachelor’s degree in Documentation, Library science, Information Management, Mass Communication or related area is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 2 years of professional work experience in Library Management systems, database management is required. Experience in digital repository work is required. Experience in multimedia data is desirable. Experience in Mass communication is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English and Arabic is required. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.

Recruitment for this position is on a local basis. The incumbent is required to have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location.
