Result of Service
The incumbent will be responsible for the following: Provide substantive and general administrative assistance in support of the Cluster 2, urban development planned projects and activities; • Provide substantive inputs and coordinate preparations for the regional/national workshops with experts and potential partners; • Prepare informational/outreach material on the various activities of the urban development project; • Contribute to the development of the voluntary local review of selected Arab cities; • Contribute to the development of the training program of the Arab mayors’ academy SDGs localization; • Contribute to the implementation of the project on the Quality of Life in Cities.

Duties and Responsibilities
Background: The position is located in ESCWA’s Cluster 2 on Gender Justice, Population and Inclusive Development. Specifically, the individual contractor will provide technical and non-technical support to the Urban development portfolio lead. Duties and Responsibilities: • Support the implementation of the urban development portfolio projects, including the projects on sdgs localization and quality of life in cities; • Systematically follow through, retrieve, and compile information on the economic and financial resilience of cities, with a focus on leveraging digital and technology-based solutions in the Arab region. Prepare inputs on these subjects as required; • Act as the web focal point for the urban team; • Contribute to drafting Voluntary Local Reviews in the region, identify related knowledge gaps, and prepare summaries accordingly; • Support the implementation of the Arab Mayors Academy in the Arab region to strengthen the capacities of local authorities; • Support the development process of the Quality-of-Life Index; • Assist in drafting the knowledge products of the urban team and undertake related research as needed; • Assist in the preparation of agendas, info notes, presentations, and background substantive material related to urban development meetings; • Coordinate with partners and relevant stakeholders on issues related to the urban team’s projects; • Translate documents from English to Arabic and vice versa upon request; • Undertake other tasks as needed.
Qualifications/special skills
A master’s degree in urban studies, economics, or a related field is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in an office environment, mainly in research and logistics, 3 years of which are urban development, is required Proven track record designing surveys, data collection, and analysis is required. Experience in conducting impact assessments or evaluations related to urban development projects is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English and Arabic is required. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.

Recruitment for this position is on a local basis. The incumbent is required to have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location.
