ABOUT THE ROLE

Transparency International is currently seeking a Research and Policy Coordinator (m/f/d) to join the Research & Knowledge Team and provide research and policy support to the implementation of Transparency International’s Climate Governance Integrity Programme (CGIP).

The CGIP intervenes to reinforce accountability from local to global level, and throughout the whole chain: from policy development to project implementation and monitoring.  The CGIP has been active at the national, regional, and global level, working with more than 20 TI chapters implementing programme activities across Africa, the Americas, and Asia Pacific. Since its creation 10 years ago, the programme budget has been around EUR 800K per year and is anticipated to grow significantly for the next years.

The TI CGIP programme strategic goals 2030 are as follows:

  • Climate Policy – Ensuring policy making processes relating to climate action are more transparent, accountable and inclusive. 
  • Climate Action – Ensuring the accountability, integrity, and oversight of climate-related action globally and locally. 
  • Climate Justice – Seeking improved justice outcomes for victims of environmental crime and corruption. 

The Research and Policy Coordinator will contribute to the implementation of this agenda by providing research and policy support to generate the evidence for conducting evidence-based advocacy at the national, regional and global levels.

They will analyse cases of climate corruption and design methodologies to improve the effectiveness of climate social accountability measures, as well as engaging with TI national chapters to promote and follow up on research findings and concrete advocacy opportunities.

They will conduct research on the independence of environmental bodies and undue influence in climate policy making as well as corruption risks in national climate strategies and global funds. In conducting and coordinating research activities, the Research and Policy Coordinator will put a special emphasis on investigating the linkages between corruption, gender equality, social inclusion and climate governance to address the knowledge gaps at the intersection of climate, corruption and gender.

Salary Band: salary according to TI-S internal salary structure; for this position corresponding to band PF2 a salary starting EUR 42,000.00 gross per year depending on relevant experience

Starting Date: As soon as possible

Contract Duration: Currently we can offer an employment contract limited for a duration of 2 years

Working Hours: full time [100%; 40 hours per week]

Location: Transparency International Secretariat (TI-S), Berlin, hybrid working model – with international travel

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THE ROLE

Based in the Research and Knowledge Team, the Research and Policy Coordinator will:

  • Provide thematic support to TI ‘s activities to generate policy evidence on climate governance integrity
  • Contribute to the development of knowledge materials, tools and methodologies to meet the project objectives, including producing briefs, key messages and web content and on-demand research and policy support to local CSOs related to climate governance and integrity, etc.
  • Undertake and coordinate cross-country research as needed and develop knowledge materials, including providing quality control of project’s research outputs.
  • Support the development of policy positions on issues related to climate governance integrity.
  • Write blogs and produce evidence needed for advocacy and communication campaigns
  • Support the production of evidence for advocacy targeting strategic forums such as G7, G20, OECD, the EU and the UN.
  • Establish and/or nurture spaces for exchange and dialogues within the TI Movement and with external partners on issues related to climate governance and its impact on vulnerable populations.
  • Generate ideas, develop concept notes/proposals, and activities that are aligned with organisational priorities.
  • Contribute to day-to-day work implementation, including work planning, budget management, monitoring, and reporting, ensuring that all phases are consistent with the design and delivery schedule and internal processes and procedures
  • Stay abreast of developments relating to the area of work and be available to respond to on-demand internal and external stakeholder needs
  • Represent the organisation at relevant fora within area of expertise as needed; build relationships and form alliances with external counterparts, communities of practice and stakeholders
  • Contribute to the overall functioning of the Research and Knowledge team by providing proactive and ad hoc support where necessary

CANDIDATE PROFILE

In order to succeed in this role, candidates will need to meet the following:

  • University degree in a relevant field of the social sciences, such as political science, sociology, economics, public administration or a related field, with an academic emphasis on research
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience, preferably with an International NGO or International Organisation
  • Strong knowledge and experience in research design, development of tools and methodologies
  • Substantive experience in research coordination in a multi-country/international setting
  • Exposure to policy development and advocacy
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise of anti-corruption, good governance and development fields required, preferably with a focus on climate governance and environmental issues and their impact on inequalities a strong advantage
  • Demonstrated project management skills with strong organizational skills and the ability to successfully manage priorities in a dynamic and fast paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and delivering to tight timelines.
  • Solid writing, editing and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team as well as independently, particularly at distance communication
  • Professional language proficiency in English required and an additional language an advantage
  • Strong interpersonal, team work and intercultural communication skills, particularly at distance communication
  • Commitment to the values and principles of Transparency International
  • Willingness to travel
