Background:
This position is located in the Office of the Executive Secretary and the Research Assistant is required to provide relevant research and administrative support under the direct supervision of the Special Assistant of the Executive Secretary
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Special Assistant to the Executive Secretary, the Research Assistant is required to perform the following duties:
1- Researches, extracts and compiles basic information and technical data on specific programmes/projects and related topics and issues.
2- Sorts, consolidates, extracts and processes data and enter into relevant database.
3- Assists in monitoring developments/issues on subjects or areas assigned by collecting, selecting, analysing and compiling materials from multiple sources, e.g., relevant databases, the library and the Internet.
4- Assembles original statistical material; adjusts reported data from different sources and load data into computerized database system.
5- Assists in the evaluation and examination of data sets for accuracy, clarity and validity.
6- Assists in the maintenance of relevant computerized databases.
7- Prepares a variety of reports, presentations, tables, lists, graphs, charts and/or diagrams for information and review by senior officers.
8- Prepares abstracts/bibliographic descriptions for inclusion in documents, articles, books and publications.
9- Reviews, stores, classifies, and maintains relevant computerized databases.
10- Performs, under minimal supervision, the full range of office management and administrative support functions.
11-Performs other related work, as required.
Qualifications/special skills
A Master’s degree in political science, development, economics, social sciences or related area is required.

A minimum of 2 years of professional work experience in research is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA.
For this position, fluency in English and Arabic is required.
Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
Additional Information
Recruitment for this position is on a local basis. The incumbent is required to have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location.
