Duties and Responsibilities
Background:
This is a vacancy for an individual contractor/ research assistant who will be assigned as a project assistant. Under the direct supervision and direction of the project coordinator, the incumbent shall substantively assist in the preparations and implementation of the activities of the United Nations Development Account Project on” Use of foresight analysis of megatrends to support decision-making in the ESCWA Region” the incumbent will also research and assist in the conceptualization, preparation, and production of papers and studies related to megatrends and contribute to the preparations of Regional and national Workshops and the development of learning tools. The incumbent is expected to be knowledgeable of new emerging megatrends in the world and the Arab region and their respective implications.
More specifically, the incumbent is expected to provide substantive assistance in the following:
– Continuous monitoring of major Megatrends impacting the Arab region and the world.
– Assist in the implementation and related documentation of a UNDA Account project on “Use of foresight analysis of megatrends to support decision-making for the Sustainable Development Goals in the ESCWA Region” and assist in drafting substantive progress reports and the development of the related webpage on ESCWA’s website.
– Assist in the conceptualization and preparation of research material that contributes to the production of papers and parliamentary documents on megatrends that impact the Arab Region.
– Assist in the identification of a major megatrend topic that impacts the Arab region; Collect background research; Contribute to the conceptualization and the production of the study.
– Assist in the identification of learning tools and training courses developed worldwide on strategic foresight analysis and contribute to the identification of potential partners to develop a customized training and learning tool for the ESCWA region.
– Contribute to the preparations of meetings, expert group meetings, and workshops, and provide related documentation, PowerPoint presentations, and final reports.
– Conduct research and undertake tasks in areas related to the project field.
– Perform other tasks that may be required by the Office of the Deputy Executive Secretary.
Qualifications/special skills
A Bachelor’s degree in Economics or related area is required.

A minimum of 2 years of professional work experience in economic affairs is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA.
For this position, fluency in English and Arabic is required.
Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.

Recruitment for this position is on a local basis. The incumbent is required to have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location.
