The IC will be expected to deliver the following results: 1) Research activities, review and validation of various written outputs such as the SDR 5 analysis and statistics, and analysis of datasets related to the Social Justice project; 2) Organization of meetings, seminars and training workshops on disability and/or social justice and other issues addressed by the team; 3) case studies for the Disability manual; 4) Additional ad hoc deliverables as required.

Duties and Responsibilities
Background: The Research Assistant will be working with the Social Justice Team and Disability Team on Research activities and preparation of various written outputs related to the Social Justice project. Duties and Responsibilities: – Provide substantive research support on subjects related to the work of the Disability and Social Justice Teams; in particular the Social Development Report No. 5 revisions and data confirmation; and the LNOB Tracker indicators. This includes reviewing existing literature; assisting in formulating research questions; conducting desk research; collecting quantitative and qualitative data from secondary sources, summarizing and presenting data in different formats. – Provide research on incorporating up-dated case studies for the manual on disability on independent living. – Compile, tabulate and analyze different types of survey results and data sets on various socioeconomic issues taken from a variety of sources. – Examine statistical material to ensure accuracy, clarity and validity and make appropriate adjustments. – Generate a variety of statistical reports and prepare presentations, tables, lists, charts, data sets, and/or diagrams for reporting and presentation purposes. – Assist in the preparation and review of written outputs published by the social justice team e.g. background papers, technical papers, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications. – Participate in and co-facilitate capacity building workshops. – Draft inputs to presentations, speeches, policy briefs and research papers. – Assist in the organization of expert group meetings, conferences or workshops related to the work of the team. – Support the deployment of online surveys and other tools and the collection, validation and tabulation of related data to facilitate analysis. – Prepare minutes of meetings. – Draft final reports of workshops and meetings as requested. – Perform other duties as requested. – Assist in the facilitation of teamwork exercises during the workshop on independent living to be held on 9-10 July 2024.
Qualifications/special skills
A Master’s degree or equivalent in a social science related field such as sociology, economics, development studies, political sciences, or public administration, or any other related field is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of five years of progressively relevant experience in socio-economic research and in dataset and survey analysis is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in Arabic and English are required. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
