The incumbent will be tasked to perform the following: ▪ High quality of desk research and analysis on the implementation of the UNCRPD in the Arab region. ▪ Prepare reports and training materials on disability policy inclusion. ▪ Provide admin and logistical support to the disability team events, including workshops, and prepare meeting reports. ▪ Background documents related to the commemoration of the International Disability Day, including related concept notes and reports. ▪ Follow up with stakeholders and target groups on several surveys and meetings details. ▪ Contributing to the ESCWA program of work and coordination between ESCWA’s projects on disability and overlapping thematic areas. ▪ Other tasks as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities
Background: ESCWA is working on supporting disability inclusion in the Arab region within the framework of the implementation of the CRPD. ESCWA is also coordinating and working with its national counterparts and stakeholders to identify policy gaps, remove barriers and work out solutions that will help governments to support the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the local societies. In this contextو ESCWA is implementing a project on “Supporting the economic inclusion of persons with disabilities and women in Lebanon, Tunisia, Jordan, and Morocco” aiming at 1) improving the access of persons with disabilities and women with disability in the Arab Region to the labour market and 2) enhancing the inclusiveness of the economic ecosystem in the Arab region and its responsiveness to the needs of persons within disabilities. Thus, ESCWA is seeking the services of an individual contractor (IC) to support the Disability Team with implementing its program workplan and support the implementation of CRPD Articles across the Arab countries and to contribute to the activities of this project. Duties and Responsibilities: Under the guidance of the program manager of Disability Program, the Individual contractor will be responsible for the following tasks: • Provide substantive research support on subjects related to the work of the disability team: this includes reviewing existing literature; assisting in crystallizing research questions and conducting desk research. • Assist in the preparation and review of written outputs published by ESCWA e.g. background papers, technical papers, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, related to disability inclusion. • Assists in the preparation of presentation materials using appropriate technology/software. • Draft inputs to presentations and research papers. • Assist in the organization of expert group meetings, conferences or workshops related to the work of the disability team, such as the annual meeting of the Intersessional Group of Experts on Disability (IGED), among others. This includes the development of relevant background papers, relevant content for presentations, and documentation and meeting reports. • Supporting the provision of capacity-building workshops and/or policy dialogue for policymakers and relevant stakeholders on various disability-related topics, including inclusive labor market and doing business policies and economic empowerment of persons with disabilities, physical and digital accessibility, independent living, and community inclusion. • Map existing ESCWA platforms and material and compile substantive content of relevance to the needs of women and PwD to be made accessible for PwD using available tools or by specialized staff at ESCWA. • Prepare minutes of meetings. • Performs a wide range of office support and administrative functions. • Performing other duties as requested.
Qualifications/special skills
A bachelor’s degree in social science, economics, public policy or related area is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 3 years of professional work experience in economics, public policy or social sciences is required. Relevant experience in the Arab region is required. Knowledge of disability inclusion is desirable. Good research and drafting skills are desirable. ITC knowledge is desirable. High quality of desk research and analysis on various disability issues in the Arab region in desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in Arabic and English is required. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
