Duties and responsibilities

The position holder will report to Senior Laboratory Officer and will be responsible for Media preparation and quality control, lyophilization, bio-hazard waste management and operation of autoclave facility, as well as supporting assigned laboratory activities including biological sample handling, processing and discarding, recording and compiling laboratory data, perform simple laboratory tests etc, to implement quality laboratory services and support high-quality lab research complying with the laboratory quality management systems requirements and guidelines, and organizational values and guidelines such as Institutional Governance Framework – IGF and Gender Diversity Guidelines.

The specific areas of responsibilities are detailed below:

• Receive biohazard waste materials from various laboratories, weighing and checking;
• Perform the operations of autoclave facility, check performance efficiency of autoclave cycles; Perform spore QC test, maintain log book;
• Maintain cleanliness following bio-safety guidelines;
• Dispose autoclaved wastes according to the set guidelines. Keep electronic record;
• Prepare different type of microbiological culture media as per user requirements following SOP and supply QC passed media to the users. Maintain legitimate records including electronic records;
• Perform QC tests for all prepared culture media; assess quality and prepare report;
• Perform Lyophilization processes;
• Operate generic common laboratory equipments, e.g. centrifuge, pipette, hot-air oven, biosafety cabinet, water-bath, incubator, etc;
• Ensure and perform in-house maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment according to equipment maintenance plan and contact with bio-medical engineering for major troubleshooting and maintenance works;
• Perform basic troubleshooting;
• Keep legitimate records of operations and maintenance as per laboratory protocol;
• As assigned, handle, process, and store biological samples following SOP, quality management system guidelines and biosafety guidelines;
• Dispose samples maintaining bio-safety guidelines, maintain log including electronic records;
• Perform simple laboratory tests as and when assigned, e.g. pH testing, conductivity measurement, temperature and humidity recording, etc;
• As assigned, record and compile laboratory generated data, organize and store as per laboratory set protocol;
• Use Laboratory information system, electronic inventory, other laboratory software and electronic records efficiently and per laboratory requirement.

Required qualification and experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology;
• 3-5 years relevant experience is required.

Contract Type and duration:

• Fixed term basis for 1 year with a possibility of extension subject to availability of fund and performance.

Salary & benefits:

• Tk 35,867/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
• Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen; Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
• 14.8% provident fund contribution, income tax paid by icddr,b, children allowance @Tk.1,917/- per child per month, festival bonus, contributory healthcare support including dependent spouse and children, group life insurance, and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
