Duties and Responsibilities
Background: The service of the Individual contractor is needed to carry out research and analyses on Arab Trade and to assist in the development of technical reports and trade materials. This assignment is for IC researcher is under the DA account on Blockchains for Facilitating Trade and Enhancing competitiveness. Duties and Responsibilities: The IC will be tasked the following: • Research, compiles, analyses, summarizes, and presents basic information/data related to activities on regional integration in the Arab region. • Systematically follows through and retrieves, highlights and compiles information on Trade integration in the Arab region from a wide variety of information sources; prepares inputs on the subject as required. • Participate to the delivery of technical assistance activities to MSs. • Prepares statistical tables and graphs and assists in the preparation of presentations and background substantive material on trade integration related deliverables. • Undertake specific analyses on selected subjects related to trade integration. • Translates from English and French to Arabic and vice versa upon request. • Performs other related tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
An Master’s Degree in applied economics or related area is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 2 years of professional work experience in applied economics is required. Knowledge in trade area is required. Proficiency in MS. Office is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in Arabic and English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. French is desirable Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.

Recruitment for this position is on a local basis. The incumbent is required to have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location.
