About the position
The Green Campus initiative of Alliance Bioversity International and CIAT is currently seeking a skilled professional in the field of Agronomy or related careers to focus in Agroclimatic Modeling. The primary focus of this role will be to actively contribute to the implementation of crop and climate modeling techniques, aimed at monitoring and forecasting agroclimatic conditions at the CIAT experimental station. The key objective of this position is to advance research and application of agroclimatic information, enhancing farm management practices through precision agriculture. This is especially critical within the context of climate variability and change.
The position will be based in the operations center of the Americas, located in the Campus of Palmira,
Colombia.
Qualifications and requirements
· Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy engineering or agricultural engineer related careers with expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, agronomic modeling and/or agroclimatic, and the application of digital technologies in agriculture.
· Specialization or training courses in artificial intelligence, machine learning or similar.
· Experience and demonstrated proficiency in climate data analysis and agricultural modeling using programming languages such as R and/or Python, and knowledge of data visualization tools, including satellite images (e.g., Google Earth Engine).
· Experience in managing and processing gridded data sets relevant to spatial modeling, such as weather, climate, remote sensing, and soil data.
· Intermediate to Advanced English level (oral and written).
Terms of employment
This is a national recruited position placed at a BG06, on a scale of 14 levels, with level 14 being the highest.
This is a Colombian national search and will be managed through a fixed term contract of a one (1) year period, subject to a probation period according to the local legislation and is renewable depending on performance and availability of resources.
