About the position
The Green Campus initiative of the Alliance Bioversity International and CIAT is currently seeking a professional in the field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) focused on Precision Agriculture and Remote Sensing technologies. The main objective of the position will be to provide technical support for the initiative, which involves the installation of IoT and ICT infrastructure, digital imagery, and IoT sensor data collection for mandatory crop assessments, conducted through ground and aerial platforms.
The position will be based in the operations center of the Americas, located in the Campus of Palmira, Colombia.
Responsibilities
Support the design and development of GIS-based solutions for precise agriculture, including spatial data analysis, cartography, and modeling.
Collaborate with the drone team collecting aerial images and remote sensing data for crop monitoring, disease detection, and performance prediction.
Use IoT sensors to collect real-time data on soil conditions, weather, and crop health, and integrate the data into GIS systems to support decisions.
Support the design and maintenance of the information and communication technology (ICT) framework required for data collection, processing, and distribution.
Analyze spatial and sensor data to identify trends, patterns, and improvement opportunities in agricultural processes.
Prepare monthly management reports highlighting progress and results achieved.
Collaborate closely with the research scientist and AI research partner, ensuring the successful implementation of GIS and ICT solutions in agricultural environments.
Other responsibilities will be assigned according to the program needs.

 

Requirements

Qualifications and requirements
Bachelor’s degree in geography, topography, agronomical or agroforestry engineering, or related fields.
Specialization or training courses in GIS, remote sensing, geoinformatics, or similar.
Experience in drone operation and image processing.
Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and spatial analysis techniques.
Knowledge in ICT infrastructure, data management, and Python.
Intermediate – Advanced English level (oral and written).
Competences
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team with people in a multi-cultural and multidisciplinary environment.
Proper work planning.

 

Benefits

Terms of employment
This is a national recruited position placed at a BG06, on a scale of 14 levels, with level 14 being the highest.
This is a Colombian national search and will be managed through a fixed-term contract of a one (1) year period, subject to a probation period according to the local legislation and is renewable depending on performance and availability of resources.
