JOB DETAIL

Job Summary:

Performs research development with senior research staff to develop, implement, manage, and conduct research studies. Makes detailed evaluations, observations, analyzes data and interprets results using qualitative/quantitative methods and statistics. Investigates, creates, and develops new methods and technologies for project advancement. Works with senior research staff to develop and implement non-clinical research studies. Provides input on the best ways to obtain accurate information from study participants in ways that address research objectives and permit data-based conclusions. Works with diverse teams on multiple projects at once. This position is part-time and will work at 50% LOE.

Accountabilities:

Research/Technical

  • Conducts literature reviews with minimal guidance from senior staff.
  • Supports senior staff in the development of study documents, including drafting informed consent forms and collaborating on drafting data collection tools and sections of study protocols.
  • Programs simple to moderately complex surveys.
  • Develops training materials with guidance from senior staff; may collaborate on or co-lead trainings for study implementation.
  • Monitors data as it comes in from the field for completeness and accuracy.
  • Conducts qualitative data management and analysis.
  • Assists in the development of qualitative codebooks; reviews transcripts for and removes/obscures identifiable information.
  • Works with a team to apply codes consistently to transcripts using current software, writes code summaries.
  • Develops codebook for quantitative datasets; obtains, merges, and cleans quantitative datasets.
  • Conducts descriptive analyses using statistical software with minimal oversight; fills in table shells and may suggest additional analyses based on understanding of data.
  • Conducts more sophisticated analyses involving regressions, scale creation, or application of complex sampling designs with substantial oversight from senior staff.
  • Prepares datasets and associated documentation for public data sharing; may verify results from descriptive analyses conducted by others prior to publication.
  • Supports preparation of dissemination materials, including data visualizations for various audiences, and coordinates internal reviews.
  • Supports new business development efforts.

Project Management/Coordination

  • Manages communications with the study team and field-based data collection team(s).
  • May include planning and managing team meetings, documenting key decisions and tracking action items.
  • Tracks study progress and timelines; identifies and communicates potential problems to field team, under appropriate supervision.
  • Supports financial administration of project, including collaborating on study budget.
  • Assist with subaward development and monitoring.
  • May review and track invoices and payments; manage consultant contracts.
  • Performs other duties assigned.

Applied Knowledge & Skills:

  • Ability to analyze and interpret data, identify errors, and prepare reports.
  • Experience programming surveys for electronic data collection using preferred software.
  • Familiarity with data visualization software, interactive dashboard creation, or geographic information systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures for conducting research studies under government regulations.
  • Effective communications in information shared by ensuring attention is paid to the specific components (i.e., formatting) of the communication, successful delivery, and accountability for specific components (i.e., keeping timelines updated).
  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English, fluent in host country language as appropriate.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or its International Equivalent in Civil Society, Communication and Social Marketing, Economic Development, Education, the Environment, Gender, Health, Nutrition, Research, Technology and Youth or a Related Fields.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Typically requires 3+ years of research or evaluation experience.
  • Prior experience in global public health preferred.
  • Prior experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO) preferred.

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Typical office environment.
  • Ability to spend long hours looking at computer screen and doing repetitive work on a keyboard.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 5 lbs.

Technology to be Used:

  • Personal Computer/Laptop, Microsoft applications (i.e., Office 365, SharePoint, Skype/Zoom/Teams), cell phone/mobile technology, and standard office equipment.

Travel Requirements:

  • 10% – 25%

Pay Equity and Benefits:

The expected hiring salary range for this role is listed below. FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget.

Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 12% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account. Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours/week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year. Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.

Hiring Salary Range: $60,000 – 74,000
