Description of the project:

Programme for Emerging Infections under Infectious Diseases Division is conducting research studies and surveillance on zoonotic diseases to detect pathogens, identify risk factors and develop interventions that can be used by the government to control zoonotic diseases.

Key Responsibilities:

The Research Fellow will report to the Scientist and will be responsible for following duties and responsibilities;

• Develop protocol for field implementation and data collection;
• Perform data analysis and manuscript writing;
• Create preliminary budgets and revise budgets after consultation with Scientist;
• Train field staff on data collection methods and provide instruction and guidance to field staff during implementation of study;
• Organize logistics and manage field team;
• Sample processing, maintain cold chain, storage and arranging transportation from field to icddr,b laboratory and preservation of the sample;
• Write initial report based on one’s own analysis, experience and understanding of the work;
• Guide team members on completion of tasks, activities, reports and documents.

Required qualifications and experience:

Young, bright individuals who meet the following criteria and are aspiring to develop their careers as public health researchers in the research-based environment at icddr,b are encouraged to apply.

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
• Outstanding academic results (at least 3.5 out of 4 scales in Bachelor) from reputed universities enlisted by the University Grant Commission of Bangladesh (UGC);
• Strong interpersonal and excellent communication and writing skills in English;
• Candidates who demonstrate exceptional research skills will be given priority.

Location: Dhaka and field sites.

Contract Type and Duration:

• Fellowship agreement; duration will be 1 year with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & Benefits:

Stipend: Tk.51,090/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances. Income tax paid by icddr,b, and subsidized canteen and Transport is subject to space availability.

Evaluation & Certification: The progress of the Fellows will be monitored and evaluated. On successful completion of training and final evaluation, the Research Fellow will be awarded a certificate.
