The program of Enteric and Respiratory Infections under the Infectious Diseases Division conduct research with Virology Laboratory and vaccine trial unit for multiple project like RSV, Polio, HEV, Flu vaccine etc. of the program to achieve this goal icddr,b is working for controlling enteric infections, detecting and controlling emerging and re-emerging infections with the collaboration of the relevant government and non-government stakeholders.
Position Description:
The Research Investigator reporting to the Senior Scientist will be required to plan, direct and conduct the implementation of research activities within Virology Laboratory with the objective of collecting relevant research data for creating knowledge within the guidelines of the research protocol and organizational values and guidelines. The candidate will assist PI, Co-PI and Scientists to conduct laboratory testing and clinical trial activities. The specific areas of responsibilities include:
- Create detailed research design, methodology and SOP to achieve the study objectives;
- Develop and test research methodology in order to conduct research;
- Estimate requirements for financial and non-financial resources based on research methodology;
- Circulate new protocol drafts internally and externally, seek feedback and modify accordingly;
- Contribute to other colleagues’ research protocols in order to develop effective protocols that meet the new research objectives;
- Prepare project implementation plan and ensure the infrastructure for the study;
- Understand research activities/protocol and plan for it’s milestones, deliverables etc.;
- Supervise Vaccine storage, sample storage, sample accountability and shipment;
- Conduct laboratory tests and analyses to generate new results with publication competency;
- Troubleshoot common problems with experiments in order to build and develop an engaged and high performing team;
- Generate laboratory data, perform analysis, prepare scientific report and present findings to supervisor to seek inputs;
- Prepare report and share findings with the supervisor to execute activities in accordance with project plan;
- Work jointly with PI and other team members to develop articles for peer-reviewed journals;
- Conduct peer reviews of manuscripts of other researchers to ensure effective analysis and translation of research report;
- Train junior research staff on project designing, laboratory techniques expertise, data interpretation and analysis;
- Train junior researchers on safely handling of infectious biological agents; safety during chemical reagents handling and dispose bio-hazardous laboratory reagents and chemicals in order to maintain good laboratory practice and safe working environment.
Required qualification and experience:
- M. Sc. in Microbiology/Biochemistry/Biotechnology/Molecular Science with good academic records;
- At least 05 years of working experience in clinical trials of vaccines and laboratory research including project implementation, laboratory data generation and analysis.
- Preference will be given to the candidates who have research articles published in peer reviewed international journal as first author/coauthor.
Location: Dhaka.
Contract Type and duration:
- Fixed Term; duration will be 1 Year with a possibility of extension subject to availability of fund and performance.
Salary & benefits:
- Annual Tk.14,59,020/-inclusive of house rent, conveyance, and other admissible benefits;
- 14.8% provident fund contribution, income tax paid by icddr,b, children allowance @Tk.1,917/- per child per month, festival bonus, contributory healthcare support including dependent spouse and children, group life insurance, and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
