The Program for HIV and AIDS under the Health System and Population Studies Division (HSPSD) at icddr,b provides good quality HIV prevention services to key populations at risk of HIV infection since 2010. This has been made possible by working with the Government of Bangladesh (GoB), donors, NGOs and CBOs. Recently, the Program for HIV and AIDS is conducting a mixed-method study to understand the psychological distress and sexual health concerns of MSM, MSW, hijra in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Based on the findings of the study, recommendations will be generated to develop a culture-sensitive intervention model to improve SRHR for these populations.
Position Description:
The Research Officer will report to the Principal Investigator and will be responsible for leading the field team, monitoring data collection, planning, organizing and participating in workshops, seminars or other sessions with GoB stakeholders, policy planners and relevant field experts. S/he will be involved in –
- Plan, communicate and organise field visits as per study need;
- Coordination with the team members and Co-PIs, Co-Is of the project;
- Conduct qualitative interviews, transcript and analyse the qualitative data
- Understand community sensitivity and respond to the community as per project needs;
- Arrange intervention designing workshops, dissemination workshops and other relevant project events as well as actively participate in different project events as well as relevant seminars and workshops.
- Taking all relevant field notes, tracking and documentation of the day-to-day project activities and updating the progress to the supervisor in order to fulfil the study objectives;
- Check for credibility and trustworthiness of collected data to ensure the quality of data;
- Prepare a summary of collected data and interpret data on a regular basis;
- Strong ethical understanding and implementation.
- Work with PI in preparing high-quality research reports and presentations that effectively combine findings from qualitative and quantitative data and present in different scientific forums;
- Contribute to the publication of mixed methods research findings in peer-reviewed journals;
Required qualifications and experience:
- Master’s degree in Social Sciences/Anthropology/Public Health with good academic records;
- At least 3 years of working experience in the relevant field
- First-hand experience in conducting qualitative research and analyzing qualitative data is mandatory.
- Basic computer skills in MS Office with standard documentation competency are essential;
- Experience in article publishing, grant writing and project management is a plus.

Contract Type and Duration:
- Short Term Contractual Service Agreement basis; duration will be 3 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.
Salary & benefits:
- Tk. 59,900/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
- Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen; Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
