Health System and Population Science Division is implementing a study at Matlab named “Building capacity to study mixed metal-induced neurotoxicity in rural Bangladeshi children” funded by NIH through Sam Houston State University, USA. The project is looking for suitable candidates for the post advertised.
Position Description:
The Research Officer will report to the Principal Investigator and will be required to perform literature review, maintain data management system; develop analytical plan for different study designs, quality control of data, perform routine statistical data analysis; maintain the security of the database to support the PI in writing scientific report and manuscripts within the guidelines of research protocol and organizational values and guidelines. The major responsibilities will include –
- Conduct literature review, analyze data and draw scientific inferences;
- Create a detailed research design and methodology to achieve the study objectives;
- Check for credibility and trustworthiness of collected data to ensure the quality of data;
- Apply advanced statistical methods which include Regression/prediction/survival analysis, trend test, simple/logistic/multivariable regression, linear /mixed models, structural equation modelling, risk factor etc, to carry out appropriate statistical analysis to epidemiological studies.
- Coordinate with the Research Administration for approvals for research-related activities;
- Monitor and coordinate the project-related activities
- Prepare different types of reports, PowerPoint presentations, and documentation to develop a high-quality reporting system
- Analyze data by STATA/R and tabulations of the study results from STATA/R; Prepare graphs/slides for reports and presentations;
- Check data for errors in consultation with field staff; Add data into the database; Generate STATA data file and send to the concerned supervisor & PIs.
- Design to ensure data validity and reliability; Ability to clarify operational definitions of the analysis variables and statistical analysis results.
- Escalate issues/discrepancies to the supervisor to retrieve data and provide cleaned versions to PIs and other team members; prepare a summary of collected data and interpret data regularly;
- Write study reports and articles for peer-reviewed journals.
Required qualifications and experience:
- Master’s degree in Statistics/Applied Statistics/ Biostatistics from a reputed institute with excellent academic records.
- At least 3 years of experience in public health research and field implementation with strong interpersonal and excellent communication skills in English.
- Very good knowledge of Statistical programming languages including STATA and R
- Knowledge of Statistical approaches used in public health research, including study design, sampling design, and advanced statistical analysis.
Location: Mohakhali, Dhaka (Will have to visit frequently the study site of Matlab, Chandpur)

Contract Type and Duration:
- Short Term Contractual Service Agreement basis; duration will be 3 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.
Salary & benefits:
- Tk. 59,900/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
- Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen; Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
