Research Officer (Adv#257/2023)

Programme for HIV and AIDS under the Health System and Population Studies Division is conducting a mixed-method study to produce data to assess the burden of psychological distress (anxiety, stress, depression) and sexual health concerns (perceived sexual problems other than pathological diseases or dysfunctions) among gender and sexually diverse population like MSM (male who sex with male), MSW (male sex workers) and Transgender women (hijra). Based on the findings of the study an intervention will be designed to address the psychosexual problems of this population.

Position Description:
The Research Officer will report to the Assistant Program Manager and will be responsible for leading the field team, monitoring data collection, planning, organizing and participating in workshops, seminars or other sessions with GoB stakeholders, policy planners and relevant field experts. S/he will be involved in –
  • Plan, communicate and organise field visits as per study need;
  • Coordination with the team members and Co-PIs, Co-Is of the project;
  • Conduct qualitative interviews, transcript and analyse the qualitative data
  • Work with PI in preparing quarterly progress reports, final technical reports and other reports as per donor requirements.
  • Understand community sensitivity and respond to the community as per project needs;
  • Arrange intervention designing workshops, dissemination workshops and other relevant project events as well as actively participate in different project events as well as relevant seminars and workshops.
  • Taking all relevant field notes, tracking and documentation of the day-to-day project activities and updating the progress to the supervisor in order to fulfil the study objectives;
  • Check for credibility and trustworthiness of collected data to ensure the quality of data;
  • Prepare a summary of collected data and interpret data on a regular basis;
  • Strong ethical understanding and implementation.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Master’s degree in Social Sciences /Anthropology/Public Health with good academic records;
  • At least 3 years of working experience in the relevant field
  • First-hand experience in conducting qualitative research and analyzing qualitative data is mandatory.
  • Proficiency in Bengali typing is mandatory;
  • Basic computer skill with standard documentation competency is essential
  • People who have published in journal articles and have prior experience working with marginalized and vulnerable populations will be given preferences.
Location: Dhaka

Contract Type and Duration:
  • CSA basis for 6 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.
Salary & benefits:
  • Tk. 57,048/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
  • Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen; Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
